We need a battering ram running back similar to John Clay at the University of Wisconsin. He's huge (6'1" and 248 pounds). Unfortunately, he's only going to be a Senior next season, and I don't think that he'll jump ship to go pro early. I don't know what the upside on him is, but he could be a good back up RB for someone.

Well if that's the best he can do KML or if his lack of acceleration to the hole and ability to make even short yardage gains is impaired by the physical skills you admit he lacks then he simply isn't worth what the Bears paid him. I really don't care what he did with other teams. He's with the Bears now and he's running behind the same line as Forte and virtually the same line as Bell ran behind last season. Forte averaged 4.5 ypc behind that line and Bell averaged 5.5 last season and showed a lot more talent running between the tackles than Taylor has shown. Taylor has a measly 2.4 ypc for cryin' out loud. and don't say it's because of the type of carries he gets. He was brought in as a 3rd down back (uneccessarily if you ask me since Forte is a 3 down back) and he was expected to take on the the tougher short yardage plays. He's just not any good at it and you state perfectly well the reason why.

The simple point in all of this to me is that he's not the 2nd best back on the team. I believe that Kahlil Bell is and that by playing Taylor to avoid the embarrassment of his signing (for $12 mil plus) the Bears simply aren't putting the best players on the field. This is something that Lovie continually tosses out and anyone with an ounce of football knowledge can see that it isn't true.

Manumaleuna is NOT a better choice than Des Clark and Chester Taylor is NOT a better choice than Kahlil Bell. Playing them over the alternate choices is simply a face saving maneuver that could cost us in the playoffs as I see it.

Oh I absolutely agree that Taylor isn't worth what we're paying him. I wasn't trying to make excuses for him or defend his (lack of) performance, just telling it like it is as I see it. The guy is a solid backup...we just grossly overpaid for him. Simple as that.

I'm excited to see Unga next season. Perhaps FB Eddie Williams or Will Tu'ufo'ou can have another shot at the roster. They sure as hell wouldn't be any worse than Manu.

I'd like to give Kahlil Bell a shot at running the ball. The only concern for me is how adept he is at running the ball.
