I don't see that happening, alot of money already contributed to the defense with Pep, BU, and Briggs, and I think the lines are more important. We need some OL help. Build a great OL and the WRs, RBs, and QBs will all look alot better. If they are going to spend that kind of money on a CB then I would rather see a great OL player instead.

After the Peppers spending I can see us not spending this year. Would love to see it though. Cut Manu and save money later on.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Didn't Peppers get more than half his contract this year? I could be wrong but I thought I heard that basically it was a 20M one year deal with cheap years after.
The Bears cap guys are smart and good at working numbers. If there is a way to fit both Mankins and Asomugha in the budget, these guys will find a way. It would improve our two weakest parts of the team instantly.

Here is Peppers contract

Another $7.5 million is available through incentives based on sacks, Pro Bowl berths, and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Peppers can earn annual $100,000 workout bonuses in years one through five. 2010: $900,000 (+ $12.5 million roster bonus), 2011: $900,000 (+ $10.5 million roster bonus), 2012: $8.9 million, 2013: $12.9 million, 2014: $13.9 million, 2015: $16.5 million, 2016: Free Agent

obviously landing a true shut down corner would be fantastic!
I get all a-tingly just thinking about it =)
Honestly I kind of doubt the Bears do it though... they've been shelling out cash like the federal government the last few years, and I've got to think they want to let things lie a little bit at this point.
Besides, I'd rather put the $$$ into the o-line.

Great player and all but is it worth spending the money to have him play 10 yards off the line?

exactly. we don't really play that much man coverage, so I don't see why they'd go after him...aggressively anyway.

Can Mike Tice turn him into a Probowl linemen?

Yeah, maybe by 2015 the FA market will cool down enough for the Bears to start looking at OL for once.

The Bears signed a whopping two free agents last offseason, and everyone thinks we emptied the U.S. Mint. The Bears have the 18th highest payroll in the NFL. I think that Halas Hall can afford Asomugha's and possibly Mankin's salaries. What I think they'll do is ditch some dead weight to add these players.
