Izzy is benefiting from a similar situation with Peppers now, and the rest of the defense playing at a high level too.
One thing about Brown he was great against the run. And to put up 6 sacks last season is a good effort considering how bad the rest of the defense was.
I think if he were in Izzy's position this season maybe he may have gotten more sacks but at the end of the day sometimes you have to let players walk for cap reasons. I think Izzy isn't a big drop-off from Brown in terms of pass rushing, Brown played the outside runs better than him too, but Izzy is better in terms of taking on blockers and stuffing runs.
The fact Brown has only gotten 2 sacks this season doesn't help the argument that they should have kept him. He's not an outstanding player and you can get similar production from guys on minimum salary.

In addition to all that, Corey Wooton and Melton look to be developing well so there isn't really a lotta room for more DEs.

And the argument that Brown got 6 sacks and is only 6 mil while Peppers got 8 and is 15mil or whatever is ridiculous. Peppers obviously does more than put up stats, requiring double teams etc.
You can also add Peppers 2 INTs to his stat sheet which are as good as sacks, 1 of them which he tipped and caught himself.
I think the point was that somehow dropping AB is somehow justified b/c AB had a bad year w/a bad NO DL, while Izzy had a good year w/a GREAST DL. I'll take AB anyday over Izzy, but don't take it as a knock on Izzy, he's fine when he is surrounded by better talent; but anyone thinks that AB isn't doing better then Izzy right now on this team is just talking crazy talk.

I wouldn't call it whining to prefer Alex Brown to Mark Anderson. Comparing Brown to Izzy is an apples/oranges arguement.
So, to review, I'd take Alex Brown every single day of the year over Mark Anderson, and twice on any Sundays. The Bears cut AB to keep Manderson, and then cut Manderson.
And he was scheduled to $5m, no more. If you want to start playing cap what if's, I'll see you an Alex Brown and raise you a Brandon Manumaleuna.

No it is not ridiculous because some people on here are only comparing sacks where peppers signed a huge contract yet only netting 8 sacks. I know peppers does more and so did Alex Brown we dumped Alex for M. Anderson. Now the kicker for dumping AB is using one of our few draft picks on a DE instead of fixing the OL.

The saints fans want AB replaced, which tells you something about how happy they are with his production. MAnderson sucked ever since his rookie year, but replacing AB with Izzy was a fantastic move that paid off. (They might have hoped MA would play better, but as it turned out with Izzy the move ended up positive in many ways).

If you are dismissive of him because of his sack numbers, then you dont understand the value he had to the team.
Exactly!!! Alex was a starter with the Bears pulling down 5-6 sacks a year as the RDE. With NO he's playing LDE and is 3rd man in the rotation so it stands to reason that his sack total would be down. Jimmors is 100% correct. AB's value to the Bears was far more than just his sack totals. He was a high character guy and a team leader. Forget about sacks for a minute and think back to his run stopping abilities and the number of batted balls had throughout his career. It's very lucky for us that Izzy has stepped up the way he has and that we haven't had any injuries at DE because all we have behind Izzy and Pep is a rookie. Wooten may be playing fairly well but I wouldn't want to go into the playoffs with him as a starter. No matter what anyone thinks it was a shame the Bears had to let him go.
Those who watched the NO vs Seattle game saw him playing his usual dependable self against the run and with a batted pass to boot. It looks to me as if NO has beefed him up a little. He's looked much closer to 275-280 then he did to the 260-265 he played at in his last few years with the Bears. That may also have had an effect on his pash rush performance.

not only that JD Anderson got a rfa offer and when signed that contract becomes 100% guaranteed. I think it was for around 2 mil. So they saved only 3mil getting rid of AB since Anderson didnt workout.
