What people don't realize is the weight of discussions just like these in his candidacy. As a matter of fact, one of the stats that is noted before the speach is made for his candidacy in the final meeting is the number of media references are made for the candidate. Media includes Facebook and messageboards.
So if you, like I do, truely want to do all that you can about Dent's candidacy, reference him as often as possible. Post about his finalist status on Facebook. Bump it again periodically. We should post new threads here (maybe an article or two also).
And then make a plea to Dan Pompei to make his best speech ever this year.

Winston Churchill:
"Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak."
"If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain."

I just added a little plug for Richard Dent on my Facebook status update.

Richard Dent is the Ron Santo of the NFL

I hate to say this to you, Benji, but Dent was a better football player than even Ron Santo was a baseball player. Santo was great, but he wasn't as dominant as Richard Dent.

What I meant by that statement, my dear Yankee fan friend, is that both are deserving of the Hall of Fame, but may never get in.

I agree with that statement. Ron Santo was easily the best third basemen in the National League from 1960 through 1973. It may have been the fact that he didn't play 20 years like Brooks Robinson did. In opinion, Santo was a superior hitter to Brooks Robinson, but was not as good of a fielder. (I say this knowing full well that Santo won five Gold Gloves in the National League.) His main competition in terms of great third basemen at the time he played was Brooks Robinson, and frankly, if you asked me, for the difference of a couple of more booted ground balls per season or, what was most likely the case that he didn't have the range of motion that Robinson had, I would have rather had Santo for his all around abilities, both hitting and fielding.
As for Dent, I think he will get in the Hall of Fame one day. It may not be this year, but there is a chance that he will get in within the next five years. It's just that there were so many dominant players who retired all there together at the same time (Deion Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis, Cris Carter, and Tim Brown) who were "glamorous poster children" as portrayed by the mass media. Dent was a true Grabowski and never sought the national spotlight, which hurts him because he wasn't "flashy".
