Well, now I feel like we have a legit chance

... of winning the Super Bowl!

I felt only the Patriots were a team that we just matched up for sh*t against. Now, its down to us, the Puckers, Steelers and Jets. Frankly, I don't think there is a team left in the field that we can't prospectively beat.

The Packers are the best of any of the teams we could possibly face.

No, that would be Pittsburgh. Their run defense is better than ours, and they have a the best safety in all the NFL in Troy Polamalu. That zone blitz has crushed teams. We won't be running the ball much on them if we wind up playing the Steelers. However, it's no give me that they'll beat the Jets, so only time will tell.

The Packers are hot right now -- the hottest team in the playoffs right now. The more I think about it and the more I hear of analysts talking of this, those three touchdowns in the 4th Quarter were just garbage time touchdowns. In my opinion, it was dangerous for us to go into the Prevent defensive mode and give up those points. We still haven't convinced the NFL pundits that we are for real because, in the words, of Tom Jackson, "The Seahawks played so bad."

I was actually being sarcastic in the post. Hard to tell sometimes over a computer. But ESPN is full of shit. I didn't get home in time to catch NFL Prime Time in order to hear what other shit would come out of Trent Dildo's mouth, but Tom Jackson wouldn't have said that comment if the game had been played in the regular season. The Bears are for real, the offense is hitting its stride, and the defense in the past two games, with the exception of the 4th Quarter of the Divisional Playoff against Seattle, has been outstanding. I expect that the Bears/Packers NFC Championship Game will be low-scoring, and we will essentially shut down Green Bay's running attack and force Aaron Rodgers to beat us all by himself.

It's all good, Jimmors. But back to the topic at hand. I grow weak and weary of all the B.S. by the media. What can we do to convince them that we are now an elite team in the NFL? The past few weeks, with the exception of the Patriots and Packers games, we've been annihilating the competition. The Patriots game was an aberration, but the Packers contest was winnable, we just didn't execute the game plan that was working until the second half because we stopped running the ball. We've beaten the Eagles, who won the NFC East. We've beaten the Jets, who are in the AFC Championship Game. We've beaten the Packers once, and they are, of course, in the NFC Championship Game along with us. Lastly, we beat the NFC West Division Champion Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs, even though they are a sub-.500 team. All of this talk that we are not an elite level team in the NFL is bullshit. We've beaten some of the best teams out there. It's time that we start getting some of the respect that we rightfully deserve. Unfortunately, we have to go out and prove ourselves again because guys like Michael Irvin think that the Packers' defense and their QB are going to be too much for the Bears to handle. It's making me nauseous.

No disrespect meant by this, but why are you guys so obsessed with being respected? All I've been reading about all season on this forum is people whining about the media not giving you any love.

It's like two siblings whose parents give all their attention to one and none to the other. Why does it matter? Is it going to make you win more games? Does it make you feel better? The media is filled with a bunch of people who get paid to hypothesize game outcomes and give their opinions on NFL teams. Nothing they say matters when teams walk out onto the field on Sunday.

I could personally give two tugs of a donkey's dick about what the media thinks of the Packers. I didn't pay any attention to it when we were 4-12, nor did I pay attention to it when we were 12-4.

The only thing that matters is what YOU as fans of the Chicago Bears think of your team. Take pride in the fact that you're currently sitting at 11-5. Take pride in the fact that you kicked the Packers asses in week 3. Take pride in the fact that you won and nearly swept the NFC North. Take pride in the fact that you're going to be adding another chapter to the storied Bear/Packer rivalry in the freaking NFC Championship game! And most importantly, take pride in the fact that you potentially have another chance at a Superbowl win.

If you need the approval of the media to make you excited for or proud of your team, I feel sad for you. Take what the media says with less than a grain of salt, because none of that matters.

I think it gets to be disconcerting when every time a Bears fan turns around, we're being told that we should have a losing record, that we're not the best team in our division, that we were lucky to beat the Eagles, the Jets, and the Packers. The Packers game was luck, but we did the little things like not kill ourselves with mistakes to win that game, and besides that, we were not as good of a team back in Week 4 as we were when we lost in Week 17, which is the one we should have won instead of winning the first match up.

Evernight, I appreciate your kind words toward us Bears fans, but I have to respectfully disagree with you on us whining about not getting respect. I think that we have earned that respect several times over this season, and have not gotten it. The Packers have had a rollercoaster season, yet they were never doubted for one minute that the team was a good unit (which the Packers are good). Mike McCarthy has done a wonderful job this year of providing stability from the same team that won a spot in the playoffs last season, and probably should be considered for NFL Coach of the Year. Lovie Smith should be considered for the same thing because he led a team from a 7-9 disaster of a season in which we thought we were playoff bound because of the acquisition of Jay Cutler prior to the 2009 season, to a division championship and now possibly a berth in the Super Bowl. Nobody talks about where we were this time last year and where we are now; it's always, "The Bears are who we thought they were/they've been exposed/they are putrid/awful," etc.

I guess we have to go whip the Packers in the NFC Championship Game and then do the same thing in the Super Bowl against either the Steelers or the Jets to prove that we're a legitimate, elite football team. And I've learned to accept that, Evernight. It's fueled my passion to win this season more than ever, and it's fueled my desire to crush every opponent in our path. The team feels the same way, too.
