Bears safety Harris expected to sit out practice

    January 19, 2011 9:41 AM
    By Vaughn McClure

Bears safety Chris Harris, who injured his left hip in last Sunday's divisional playoff win over the Seahawks, is expected to be held out of practice Wednesday as the Bears begin preparation for the NFC title showdown with the Packers, a league source said.

Harris suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Bears' 35-24 victory at Soldier Field. It occurred after he and teammate Brian Urlacher stopped Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch for no gain. Both Harris and Urlacher were shaken up, but remained in the game at that moment.

Harris didn't return after that series, while Urlacher exited to locker room briefly but returned without missing any action.

Harris vowed to play against Packers regardless of his hip.

"My leg would have to be cut off for me to miss this game," Harris said after the Seahawks game.

But there's no guarantee Harris will be available Sunday, meaning rookie safety Major Wright has to be ready. Harris was in Wright's ear the entire second half against the Seahawks, making sure the rookie didn't miss any of his defensive assignments.

"Chris is the ultimate vet back there,'' Wright said. "I think he'll be OK. No matter what, we'll be ready to roll.''

thought wright did a job Sunday- and as most didn't even notice harris missing tells you that.

And against the Packers -where harris is the much better run stopper, but struggles in coverage at times-the run stopping not a s important and the better Cover safety is needed, though still worry sometimes about rook mistakes with wright liek had against BE on the last play before 1/2 time.. hopefully out of his system

I'm glad they had Wright split time w/Harris instead of redshirting him. Getting reps and slowly working into the rotation to cut down on the rook mistakes.

to what i've heard from some insiders, he's really beat up bad... he's been getting injections in his hip twice a day, plus he suffers from Bell's Palsy, which he's been on medication for it, but has been plaguing him as of late particularly. the team wants him as rested and healed up as possible before Sunday :)

If he had not gotten hurt wright would have been the starting FS from day one, they never planed on red shirting him

That sucks! esp with bell's palsy, just hope he and the trainers make sure 100% ready to play sunday.. like the heart and courage, but if a step slow or can't turn on the hip, he could be a liability

True but either way he may have split time. Glad we have depth at FS.

    M. Wright has alot of speed for a safety, just not sure he's ready yet to "not make mistakes". Mistakes in the playoffs can cost you games, kind of like DManning when he had to play safety at a young age in the superbowl.
