Paying someone for "potential" rarely works out, ala Devin Hester, Greg Olsen, Tommie Harris, etc.
There's a lot that I do like about him, but I'm not all hung up on him as others are. I try to be objective about it.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't give him a top few deal either. I'm of the mind that outside of the top tier, special runners, that RBs are very replaceable.

Matt Forte is the best running back the Chicago Bears have had since at least Neal Anderson, and maybe even further back to Sweetness himself. Before we see the CBA falter further, let's sign him to a healthy sum of money, and shore up our backfield for the foreseeable future. I can see myself purchasing a Matt Forte jersey if we do that.

Keep him unless something better comes around. I like him, but he is not an elite rb, in my opinion. Chester would put up similar numbers, imo.

He's not elite yet, but he will be with time and an improved offensive line.

I just dont see him making those game changing plays often enough to constitute him as elite. Servicable? Sure. Elite? Not convinced... yet.

No offense, but are you high?

He deserves a new deal, no doubt!.. how much is the question, and would agree $30 mill, 5 year deal about right for his talent.
And as alays said he reminds me so much of marcus allen and his "glide".. and great hands.. he will never be a "power back" or inside runner and that's fine, then again the power runners wil never be the receiver he is, or able to turn the 5 yard screen into an 80 yards TD or line him a sa WR in goaline and be very comfortale he can out jump a Cb for ball as he has done. That part of his game goes overlooked waaaaay too often.. I's bet in TOTAL YARDS he is a top 10 and close to top 5 back the last 3 yearsand considering the o-line problems that is pretty remarkable... Avergaging 1,600 yards a season is very good, doesn't matter to me if in air/ground jut matters the production

DB, since you are a Yankees hater, you suck. Deal with it.
J/K
Anyway, I do agree that Forte is deserving of a new contract, and the sooner they do it, the better. He's way outplaying what his contract is currently, and I have a hunch that we haven't seen the best of him yet.

Well, an NFL coach that knows anything about running a football knows that patience is waiting to hit a hole, not dancing and shuffling your feet/bouncing behind the line of scrimmage.
Sorry, dancing isn't patience...
