Should the Bears extend RB Matt Forte?
Matt Forte will be heading into his contract year in 2011. He is arguably our most important offensive player and he bounced back from a sophmore slump in 2009.
I think that the Bears should look to extend him right now or early in the offseason and make sure that our young feature back does not ever sniff another uniform.
I know this is very dependant on a new CBA, but what would his contract look like?
My guess is similar to the Jamal Charles contract with the Chiefs,
5 years 32.5 million/ 13 guaranteed

I think he is worth keeping on the team. As long as he doesn't lose his mind and asks for some ungodly amount of money. He is good and I hope he gets better.
Without weaponz it's just another airline!

Without a doubt... this kid has been over 30% of our offense's production each year since he was traded.
This year it seemed he has gotten better & better each week... granted a lot of that has to deal with the OL finally jelling... but Forte is a two-way threat rushing and receiving that our beloved haven't had in a low time.

They shouldn't even have to consider this, give him a new contract.
And I don't see him being the greedy type either. But the front office better nice try to screw him out of how much he deserves.

Seems like a no-brainer to me... to extend him anyways. Not sure on the contract.
I've always liked the way he runs, no wasted energy.. and normally, he just hits the hole. His style reminds me of Fred Taylor.

I think he's definitely outplayed his rookie contract.
Forte's a perfect fit for this offense and has carried the team this season. If he were to leave it'd be very hard to find an HB with his receiving and pass protection skills.
I think next year behind an improved OL he'll really break out. If he does have a huge year he could expect a huge contract at the end of the season. Which is why I say pay him now and lock him up for the next 4 years, agree that a contract similar to Chales' would be good.
However, in the eyes of the FO a lot of money could be wasted if they extend Forte on a big contract and then he does his ACL a few games in. Add to that Forte won't find an offense where he fits in so well anywhere in the league, and seems to love playing for the Bears. So even if they leave it til the last minute to give him a new contract I don't see him leaving. The Bears pay their stars well and hang onto em - Urlacher, Briggs, Hester....but will let guys like Berrian walk if they want big money.
