Seriously Henry, I think we would have won the Super Bowl if we had had Chad Pennington as our starting quarterback. There were two quarterbacks I really wanted around that time who would have been perfect for managing our offense. One is Chad Pennington, but I think he was with the New York Jets at the time, and the other who became available at mid-season was Jeff Garcia. Either one would have won us the Super Bowl because they would have been able to avoid making costly turnovers that Rex Grossman couldn't seem to contain his impish self from.

Dude, you just seriously went up in my book. I remember on the offish (chicagobears.com for those not in the know) I argued that, since the Jets were wanting a 2nd round pick for him, the time was right. He ended up having a rebound year, and although they were 10-6, they relied on him more than we needed to rely on Grossman. Granted, we either would've not drafted Manning or Hester, but I'm pretty sure Hester would've been ours...

At that time, the conventional thought was that we were going to get Mike Brown back the next season to play S with the assumption that he would be playing up to the Pro Bowl level he played at for all of those years up until he started sustaining countless injuries. I would have taken Chad Pennington at the time (an old friend of mine from a church I used to attend grew up knowing Chad, who attended The Webb School here locally in the Knoxville area), but I think it would have been more realistic to have signed Jeff Garcia since we wouldn't have had to sign him for more than the remainder of that season.
