Bears Mock Offseason [Detailed] 1/24/11
Bears Mock Offseason
Resign/Extend
DT Anthony Adams [4 years 10 million/4 guaranteed]
-He is our best run stuffer and is one of the few big bodies that we have for short yardage and running teams.
S Daniel Manning [5 years 15 million/ 7 guaranteed]
-He is a solid safety on one of the best defences in the league and he is a dynamic kick returner.
QB Caleb Hanie
-We need insurance and he has shown enough.
CB Corey Graham
-Special teams superstars are not that easy to come by and he is a legitimate Pro Bowler.
LB Pisa Tinaisamoa [3 years 8 million/4 guaranteed]
-He fits what the Bears want to do and is speed and hitting ability are a valued addition to the run game.
LB Nick Roach
-Depth and special teams and with an aging LB core we are going to need him in the future.
WR Rashied Davis
-See Corey Graham.
C Olin Kreutz [2 years 4.5 million/ 1guaranteed]
-Physically he might be done, but we need his leadership to groom some young players.
RB Khalil Bell
-Solid and provides depth.
RB Matt Forte [5 years 32 million/ 13 guaranteed]
-Similar to the deal for Jamal Charles he is the only consistent weapon that we have on offense.
Free Agency
WR Vincent Jackson [San Diego] 5 years 45 million/23 guaranteed
The Bears desperately need a dominant #1 WR that can go up and get the ball and not be jammed out of their routes. Jackson’s contract will be worked so that it protects the Bears in case he is suspended.

OG Nate Livings [Cincinnati] 3 years 9 million/ 3 guaranteed
A solid OG that can start without being a liability and brings added size 6’5” 330lbs. to the middle of the OL.

P Adam Podlesh [Jacksonville] 4 years 9 million/ 2 guaranteed
A punter with a leg that still swings hard enough to put the ball more than 38 yards.

Draft
1[30] OG/C Stefen Wisniewski [Penn State] 6’3” 308lbs.
The Bears need a serious upgrade on the interior OL at either OG or C. Wisniewski has played both OG and C and brings a lunch pail type mentality to the OL.

2[62] CB Brandon Burton [Utah] 6’1” 190lbs.
Burton has the talent to be a starting NFL CB, but is raw technically. What he has is great athletic ability and size.

3[94] DT Sione Fua [Stanford] 6’2” 306lbs.
Tommie Harris is not going to be back with the Bears and with good reason with the emergence of Toenia and Melton. Fua can be the future NT and provide some size and punch in the middle of the defense.
4. C Zane Taylor [Utah] 6’2” 310lbs.
Taylor is not a superstar athlete or physically dominant, but he is smart and he has the leadership skills to take over in 2012 from Olin.

5. LB Josh Bynes [Auburn] 6’1” 235lbs.
Bynes is an explosive player that plays with anger on the field. Bynes can be a special teamer while he is groomed to play in either the middle or on the weakside.

6. OT Jarriel King [South Carolina] 6’5” 324lbs.
King has the size and experience at both OG and OT to make the team and provide depth.

I was initially wanting a OT with our first pick, but after yesterday seeing Raji and Jenkins get the huge push up the middle constantly, I now agree with an OG/C. We have to get solid on the interior

I Dont Do Mornings
OL help is what the Bears need most, although I would not mind seeing a caliber WR like Vincent Jackson in a bears uni
-
do you realistically see that many offensive linemen being drafted? come on lol.
good points Nick. We have to deal with Suh, Raji, KW, etc.... and those guys are young. We need a better interior oline to balance that factor out. When I look at this team I see 30th ranked offense. I want something there to make us 15 ranked offense. For that to happen WR and OL needs to be adressed.

I think that the OL was such a weakness, got mentioned so much in the media and we saw Jay get sacked 52 and get knocked out of the NFC Championship that something needs to be done.
I asked the same question of Jeff Dickerson and he said the the bad OL can no longer fly under the radar.

I still think C Williams is our best LT. I'm hoping to see C. Will and Webb next season and Omiyale out of the starting equation. Shore up the interior.

One thing interesting is seeing which direction the new scouting department takes us in with player evaluation and which schools they will concentrate on. But the same gunslinger is making the calls and JA hasnt deviated from his game plan in all the years he has been GM. I can see two significnt olinemen tops.

if we DOn'T draft ATLEAST 3-4 olinemen JA should be shot.

I agree that we will see 2 significant OL additions 1 free agent [mid level] and 1 of our top 2 picks.
This is going to be different though now that we have all of our picks as we head forward we cannot help but improve in some ways.

what do you think about trading out of the first to add an additional third round pick and possibly a 5? I can see this happening cause from your list of how many FA we have(you dont list which ones might be rfa) we might need to get some later round picks to fill out the depth spots. If we had two 2 round picks going C and DT then with our 3 round picks RT and DB? Just to me looks like we can get more out of trading out that way we can make that one mega FA signing which Im praying is a WR.
