Thread: Lovie Smith extension in the works

Adding a year would be sufficient, if at the right price. I'm more worried about keeping Tice, and I KNOW Martz isn't gonna get picked up anywhere else after this season. Let's give him one extra year, and if this next year doesn't show improvement (or goes 4-12 or worse), send him packing. I do not see that happening at all tho, despite the residual anger over this important game.

Worst idea ever, this game was a larger proof of the lack of coaching this group has. We were completely out coached from the onset of this game. And from the looks of how it started, out coached the prior week also.

How in the hell were we outcoached the ENTIRE game? They scored 14 offensive points in the first half. 0, FUCKING 0 the second half. Marinelli fixed his problems, Martz just couldn't fix his due to injury and bad play by Cutler at the onset of the game.

And you're saying they got outcoached the week before? Why and how? because of the Forte pass when we were up 28-0? Are you high, or just still crying?

For much of the first half, that is true. The offense did start moving the ball, and had a golden opportunity after an INT by deciding to throw throw throw. I'm completely neutral on getting the ball first, because what happens if you stall and they score first? Your offense already showed their stuff and got nothing, while they accomplished something; I see that from both sides. I slightly, SLIGHTLY disagree with arguing against putting Collins in for one reason only: you put the third stringer in, #1 & #2 are done, regardless. I think they were trying to hold out that maybe Cutler was going to be able to come back. BUT, I don't think any reasonable human being would have replaced Hanie as the number 2 guy, esp. after the Panthers game. The end around? doubtful it's on lovie. He only called defensive plays for one year, i don't see him picking Martz's plays for him. The bottom line is that we got to the NFC championship for a second time under Lovie Smith, and a long term contract is probably not the right call, but adding an extra year wouldn't hurt.

No, I completely agreed that Collins should have been the number 3 guy, always have. The only thing i can say in defense of that, is that given the situation, if they thought Cutler could've come back, then yeah play him for a series or two, see if Cutler can make it, just because once you go to Hanie, Cutler is off the table. Hanie obviously should've gotten the number two reps for the rest of the season. Now as far as the bad play call goes, you may be right, Lovie should've vetoed it because the Pack was ALL OVER the line at that point anyway. In 08 tho, one could argue we were 11 seconds away from the playoffs, and in the Texans game (which i was there to see BOTH game killing plays), that ultimately decided it, Manning was beaten deep for a TD, then fumbled the KR. I think things are headed in the right direction, with more players being sat if they just flat out suck, even tho you see the $$$ in place with a character like Manu. I can't see how a one year extension is bad.
