The Coach is too inconsistant, 5 years 2 playoffs w/potential or better SB births is great, if you don't look at the mediocre seasons in between.
I don't think 2 NFC championship games in 5 years, and one trip to the superbowl is "mediocre". Not even close to it.

right, because the 3 years in between, they didnt go 7-9, 9-7 and 7-9.

Apparently you didn't get to the last sentance. Two out of 5 years were great, but the 3 .500 seasons were mediocre.

Lovie is not the problem, and I have been a Lovie critic.
The problem is Jerry Angelo. Lovie coached the 7-8th most talented team in the NFC to 2nd place in the conference. The truth is that if we had drafted better we would beat Green Bay Consistently.

Lovie is not the total problem, but he is definitely part of it. The success we've had this year can be attributed to the OTHER coaches on our team...and if you think about our success in 2005 and 2006...same could be said then, we had Rivera coaching the D, who had that Ryan/Ditka chemistry with Lovie, and it worked. This year we had Marinelli help get our Defense back to the top where we belong, Martz to retool our offense, and Tice to perform open heart quadruple bypass surgery on our cholesterol-laden heart we call the offensive line. Weve had succes IN SPITE of Smith, not because of him.

My Random Lovie Thoughts..
I'm kinda of indifferent on this extension... any more what does # of years on a contract mean in the NFL? You can be cut anytime as a player and fired at any moment as a coach.
I will say that any talk of Lovie deserving the 'coach of the year' honor is in order is complete BS. I do not believe Lovie did any kind of radical coaching improvements to make us go 11-5 this season. If anything its the addition of ex-head coaches added to the staff as assistants and the addition of FAs like Peppers, Harris, etc.
I am nervous though cause a lot of variables fell our way over the course of the season that won't repeat themselves in 2011. Like a healthy season as far as injuries go to key players, facing three 3rd string QBs, getting a piss poor favre in the outdoors in Minnesota, etc. I've also heard numerous reports too that it was Tice that started the "scale back the offense to something more manageable" over the bye week at Halas Hall... so Lovie has many to thank when he takes the podium after he signs an extension.
Sadly our coach is a bit of a one-trick pony with his Cover 2 scheme, but we do have a large core of this team coming back and these guys do love to play for Lovie. All I can say is the last time we went 11-5 we went to da super bowl with lovie the following yes.
So ... BEAR DOWN ... its gonna be a long off-season with no CBA in sight.
