I would not be averse to paying top dollar for Mankins even if it costs us the opportunity to pursue a WR. If they go with the 6th year deal then Floyd would still be tendered to SD and I would not give up a first for him as I would for Mankins.
Well with mediation today and tommorrow with owners/players.. let's hope BOTH SIDES, come into it, looking to actually work on issues and "parameters" such as F/A period and do something useful, instead of usual childish sniping at each other and maybe we can get thi resolved soon and a real CBA and real F/A( 4 or 5 years).. I can wish.. can't I?? " )

I am not so sure that we are as bad off at wide receiver as all that. Knox has the potential to become something great - remember, even you and DB said that it takes about three years for a wide receiver to really come into his own. Hester has proven to have speed on WR screens and bomb passes, and we all know what Earl Bennett can do for us in short to intermediate yards situations. I wouldn't hesitate going after Mankins if the opportunity arose because right now, that is the position of greatest need.

I have one question: some have advocated signing Mike Sims-Walker (WR). How? It takes at least four years to become a RFA and he only has 3 years.

Am I missing something, was he released?

'07, '08, '09, '10. Thats four. He's a restricted free agent but Jax did not tender him.

Yeah jeff, the JAX released him..

Free agent Mike Sims-Walker suggested on his Twitter account Thursday night that he won't be re-signing with the Jaguars.
"Its official ... Sorry to say my time is up," tweeted Sims-Walker, who has been told the team is moving on without him. Sims-Walker fell out of favor with the coaching staff in 2010, and it was widely believed all along that the Jags would let him walk. He falls into the second tier of free agent receivers as a talented but extremely brittle playmaker. Barring an impact addition, Hill will have sleeper value in deeper leagues as a starter Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker late Thursday night. If a new collective bargaining agreement is instated, Sims-Walker will be an unrestricted free agent.

Look up his career stats at NFL.com . His first season was 2008.

Actually I read an earlier post in this thread (from an article) that said the Jaguars didn't tender him a contract and that's why he's free agent.

He was on IR all of '07 and that counts as an accured season.

I don't know if he's who we need. He spent part of last season injured, and he's never had more than 868 (? on exact total) yards receiving in one year. Furthermore, his yards per reception total only about 13 or so. Ideally, we would go after Malcom Floyd, but he's unavailable, and if we had the chance to go after him, I would rather have Mankins in a heartbeat over Floyd.

I'd rather have Jacoby Jones (assuming it's four years to become a RFA).
