It's still a ceiling.
So WTF are you looking for Globe? Annual Super Bowl appearances? Like I posted, we had a great Oline and enjoyed two very good GM's who knew how to build a team during the 80's but still walked away with only one Super Bowl win. So why don't you give me your criteria for success instead of posting sarcastic crap and wasting board space!

Here is what I am looking for.
Consistant success.
winning multiple division titles
Actually WINNING a Super Bowl.
Making one is great, but not winning it is not. I determine success by championships

You can't honestly state that or that it will happen this year. If it doesn't then a trade for Mankins may be one way of assuring ourseleves top notch OG help now, not a year from now. There are no assurances that a new CBA will be done this year and no assurances that they will not decide on the 6 years of accrued service before UFA either. If that's the case there will be few if any decent OG's available.
This is simply about having a contingency plan that may make some sense. I don't think that anyone could successfully argue that Logan Mankins isn't worth a 1st round pick to a team in need of a road ready veteran OG. If he were an UFA there'd be a bidding war for him and he'd be out of reach pricewise but a team who trades for him eliminates that bidding war and gets him at a more reasonable price. JMO.

Well like I said, I'm not a huge JA fan but I will give credit where credit is due. This was posted on the Official Site and I thought it bore some consideration. Reilly takes the approach that two second round picks would have been high firsts in a current draft and two firsts would have gone lower.
He asserts that both Hester (8th overall) and Forte (13th overall) would be taken high in the first round rather than the second round where both were chosen. Conversely he states that Olsen would have gone a bit later (45th overall) as opposed to the 31st spot where he was picked but you can hardly criticize this one as much of a reach since we badly needed a TE.
The real surprise, and support for sox's contention about him, is that CWill would drop from the 14th pick overall back to 181st overall making him a late 6th round pick. That may be a little unfair since an injury and constantly shifting positions have probably impacted his development so far but it's pretty easy to look at him as being worth no more than a late 3rd round pick as sox has said he was valued in his mind.
I think we can all agree that CWill was a huge reach where we took him but if proves to be a competent OG and if Webb becomes a starting OT I'll let JA off the hook for this Oline bozo. The real positive is that two guys who others passes on early, because they weren't prototypical at their college positions, have become backbones in the Bears scoring machine and have the impact of high first round picks even though they were chosen with mid to late second round picks. Another, Olsen, is fair value for where he was picked, even though some feel otherwise, and has also been a consistent TD producer.
All things considered these weren't the choices of a idiot GM who knew nothing about player talent and value. JA has a decided weakness when it comes to his skills in building an Oline but he seems to have realized that and transitioned much of the responsibilty for doing it to Tice. You can't fault him for that either. It's a smart move on his part.

Hester, Forte likely would be top picks in "re-draft"
By: Larry Mayer | Last Updated: 5/17/2011 12:45 PM
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears spent second-round picks on Devin Hester and Matt Forte in 2006 and 2008, respectively. But both players would be chosen a lot higher if those drafts were conducted again today.

Devin Hester and Matt Forte likely would be top picks if their respective drafts were conducted today.
At least that’s the belief of ESPN.com’s Rick Reilly, who projects that Hester would be selected eighth overall in a “re-draft,” a leap of 49 spots from where he actually was picked at No. 57. Reilly thinks that Forte would go 13th, a jump of 31 slots from where he was chosen at No. 44.
Hester owns the all-time NFL record with 14 kick return touchdowns. He set the single-season mark with five as a rookie, and then eclipsed it with six in his second year.
Last season Hester was named All-Pro for the third time after leading the NFL in punt returns with a career-high and Bears record 17.1-yard average and three TDs. He also topped the NFL in kickoff returns with a 35.6-yard average, but his 12 returns were too few to officially qualify.
Forte rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the second time in three NFL seasons in 2010, compiling 1,069 yards and six touchdowns on 237 carries. His average of 4.5 yards per attempt was the best by a Bears running back with at least 200 carries since Neal Anderson averaged 4.7 yards in 1989.
Forte was also a threat as a receiver, tying for the team lead with 51 receptions for 547 yards and three touchdowns. The Tulane product became only the second player in franchise history to compile at least 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving in a season, joining Hall of Famer Walter Payton.

While Reilly feels that Hester and Forte would be selected higher in a re-draft than they actually were, the ESPN writer thinks that tight end Greg Olsen and offensive lineman Chris Williams would be chosen lower. Reilly projects that Olsen would be selected 45th, a drop of 14 spots from where he was picked in 2007 at No. 31; and Williams would be chosen 181st, a fall of 167 slots from where he was chosen in 2008 at No. 14.

Agree about contingency plans- but the more think and analyze the Owner/union situation, ONLY thing that makes sense now is a NEW CBA between the 2 sides.. Not a chance on june 3rd the court reverses itself, so no reason for the owner's to go back to 2010 rules, or "unlock" the lockout- So the next move will be a NEW CBA.. which will be either 4-5 years to Free Agency in it, be it in june july or later, imo

Never said that, nor do I give an ounce of weight into the "re-do draft". That's one pickup I won't criticize JA for at all. At worst, I saw CWill as a 1/2 guy from the very start of his Sr season, and it was hard not to considering the huge level of success he had against the ridiculous SEC competition. Fact is, no OT from that first round outside of Clady and Otah have done jack squat to make themselves any better a pick than him, and he was the best LT spect left on the board with his athleticism and resume. Sure, you can argue the back problem thing, but every single sign points to that being a thing of the past. His problem has been the injury bug thus far, but I've had very little problem with his play on the left side of the line where he belongs.

I may call him a bust (or at very least close to one) but I will not attack JA for the drafting of C-Will. We needed an OL, and he got us the best one available.

Re-draft=hindsight. Writers must be extremely bored.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
