That depends on what Tice wants to do with Chris Williams. Williams has the body, feet, athleticism and quickness to be a franchise left tackle (and that's what he was drafted to be) but he hasn't settled into the position yet. Was moving him inside to LG this year a sign that Tice has given up on him as an LT, or was it a move out of necessity to solidify the interior of the OL?

If he stays at LG, then yeah...we need to draft an LT and I'd gladly take either of Derek Sherrod or Tyron Smith. Both are extremely athletic, have good length and excel in pass pro.

But if Williams kicks back out to LT, that first pick would be best spent on Mike Pouncey IMO. Pouncey is a natural G but played C as a senior. He could immediately step in and start at LG and would be able to slide over to C when Kreutz is gone if need be.

I really think someone is going to over pay for Daniel Manning to play S and return kicks. My guess is a team like the NY Jets will offer him 4-5 million a season and if that is the case then we need to let him walk.

I think that we could better use Daniel Manning money on the OL or a WR.

Edit: Anquan Boldin, who I once wanted the Bears to get, had an off year with Baltimore, only 837 yards. Johnny Knox had more yards than Boldin.

Figured out who you were talking about. No way T.J. Houshmandzadeh comes here either.
Just throwing names out there and saying will be alot more supply than demand at WR, can also add steve smith if giants, who doubt let him go, but he's another.. Boldin on downside but for 1-2 years would not mind

BTW just as an informational thought bears have 36 players under contract for 2011 right now and 10 future contract players, alo tof room for signings and filling needs( figure at least 3-5 of the FA's will be back)

Bears face decision on restricted free agent Hanie

Since he arrived in 2001, Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo has talked about developing a young quarterback the way the Green Bay Packers used to do under Ron Wolf.

Mark Brunell, Aaron Brooks and Matt Hasselbeck all worked under Brett Favre in Green Bay before getting opportunities elsewhere. Brooks was a fourth-round pick. Brunell was selected in the fifth round and Hasselbeck was a sixth-round selection.

Angelo finally has his own developing quarterback in Caleb Hanie, but the Bears probably aren't ready to explore what he could bring in return via trade. In fact, they need to re-sign Hanie, who is one of two players on the roster set to become a restricted free agent. Because Hanie was undrafted from Colorado State in 2008, the Bears will not get a draft pick in exchange for him if he is signed away by another team unless they place a high tender on him. They do have the right of first refusal.
So, the Bears either will have to gamble that another team will not try to sign Hanie away or accept that they might have to match a contract from another team to keep him.

The alternative would be to place a high tender on him for a second-round draft pick that they would get in the event another team signed him. Who knows what the new collective bargaining agreement will bring with it, but the second-round tender meant a $1.759 million salary in 2010.

Does Hanie feel like he is in position to be the No. 2?

"That's not up to me," he said. "I just have to go have a good offseason and get stronger and just keep throwing and get myself ready to be in whatever position I am going to be in. I am going to put myself in the best position."

Before his effort in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game, Hanie had been known primarily for his work in mop-up time during preseason games. He'd always shown a knack for making plays, and he did when it mattered most.

"It kind of gives you a little lift," he said. "Losing the game doesn't feel good for the offseason but getting in the game and getting some game experience and game tape gives you a lift for the offseason, gives you kind of a boost."

Trade proposal: Caleb Hanie to the Cardinals for Larry Fitzgerald. Trade benefits both teams.

    Don't they need a QB?

Actually I was kidding, but I do actually think very highly of Hanie (even before the 4th qtr of last Sunday's game).
