this is sports if you want "sports-entertainment" go watch pro wrestling. the media should be ashamed of themselves if they are burying cutler because he is not the most "friendly" person. He should not have "take a PR course" he's there to play a game nothing more.
No sports is a billion dollar ENTERTAINMENT. You go to watch pro football and spend a months+ earnings to be entertained. People don't spend that much to go watch h.s. or college or AAA sports b/c they are not as entertaining. And teams spend a ton of money building their brand, and protecting it through PR. Unfortunately the Bears, as the article stated do not use PR b/c of their issues w/the media. This team would fail mightely in New York b/c of how they do things.
Part of their business is dealing with and handling the media and its fans…PR, image and perception do matter; the Chicago Bears as a "Business" is a product; a product that has to be sold, all the time, win or lose; to let your product get unnecessary and avoidable bad press is bad business…the simple fact is that in lei of slightly handling things better at the time, Jay, rightly or wrongly, will now be handing this for the rest of career…
dead on. A little bit of good PR and using the media as a positive tool would go a long way for this company.
You know, there was an interview with Caleb Hanie a few days ago, and he stated that Jay WAS helping him out during the game. But of course every idiot in the universe bases their opinions on a 5-second TV shot of Cutler looking aloof next to Hanie while Hanie pored over the playbook.
True, but could it be that, much like Griese, he was forced to come out and say that? Unfortunately b/c of the way the Bears Org has come out in the past, it would not suprise me. That being said, from what reports I have heard, there were also shots of Cutler doing this, so it's probably true; but it goes back to how the Bears org has done things in the past that now bites them in the bum.
I typically respect Morrisey and his points of view but not this one. In this one he comes across as just another whiny member of the press who dislikes the fact that the Bears are not as open and press friendly as he would like. Jay Cutler values his privacy from the press and that's one of the reasons he becomes a target. He can call football entertainment if he wants but to me it's a professional sport and not everyone is an attention hog like Peyton Manning.
Jay Cutler doesn't do commercials and Jay Cutler isn't press friendly but what Jay Cutler is is a damn good QB and a Pro-Bowl level performer. As a diehard Bears fan I'll settle for that. As for last Sunday, he was injured badly enough that he and the coaching staff felt that he wouldn't be as productive as someone else.
If the press wants to come down on something why not question why it took Lovie Smith an entire quarter to realize what they already should have known? Todd Collins sucks and had done absolutely nothing ever since he became a Bear QB. Had Hanie been Cutler's replacement the outcome might have been different. Jay Cutler is not to blame for Sunday's loss and the press needs to stop being as moody as they claim Cutler is!
If you want to be an intravert, feel free not to become a multi million dollar qb in the most popular sport, in a top tv/media market. Again no one would watch sports if it was not entertaining; they are one in the same.

they are entertaining but they are not supposed to be "sports-entertainment" although thats the road we are going with the NFL doing everything in its power to drive up scoring. since apparently defensive battles are "boring" and god forbid the A.D.D. society we are will change the channel to Jersey Shore.
Cutler shouldn't have to be an extrovert, all he is required to do is go out and perform on the field if he doesn't then criticize him for that not because "he's slouching his shoulders as he comes off the field" or "he looks like he's pouting".
but welcome to the New NFL the NFL for the meatballs, part XFL part Arena football and soon part WWE. I can't wait till players Drafted are taken higher because they send "cool" vignettes to NFL teams ala pro wrestling when a new "rassler" is signed.
It probably won't stop then, especially if he's eventually traded or leaves Chicago as a free agent (without helping the team get to and win a Super Bowl) someday.
