You just said it's tougher for a new comer to learn a team's ST's, so i don't get the "wash" part. If we were trying to keep LB depth up, we never would've gotten rid of Jamar Williams...
iwuh already a TOP ST player, he ddin't need to learn the position, unlike others that need to learn it and that was what talking about time.

Let him identify a good prospect in the late rounds (like he did with Matt Birk) and maybe give Kreutz a short leash while the young guy develops for a season.
Agree all "fluff" now and No GM is going to tip hand and say they want "X" or "Y" thus rising price or alerting another team they need to strike quicker..And do think we will see in draft and like you hope they leave most of the decision making to Tice

Matt Shaw didn't need to learn it either, he was already great with us. Iwuh sucked with us. And we had PLENTY of LB depth, btw.

Tim Shaw.
Matt Shaw would make a lousy LB.

Kreutz high on Bears’ free agent wish list

Like he does every off-season, Bears general manager Jerry Angelo has a plan in mind of utilizing free agency and the draft to improve the team before training camp comes around next summer.
But with free agency hinging on a new collective bargaining agreement that expires on March 4, there’s a good chance it won’t start on time — or anytime soon — if there is a lockout.
Whenever free agency happens, the Bears will not duplicate the spending spree of last season that brought Julius Peppers, Chester Taylor and Brandon Manumaleuna. Angelo said he recognizes there is room for improvement.
Angleo has a plan?
“I’m not sitting here saying that we can’t get better,” the G.M. said. “We can get better, and we will get better. We’ve got a full complement of draft picks. I feel we’re going to do business as usual. We’ll have a plan for free agency, and I’m sure we will be able to get a few players in free agency. We’ll want to bring some of our own back, and I’m confident we will be able to do that.” The Bears do not have a strong history of getting immediate contributions from their draft choices, so any quick fixes would probably have to come via free agency.
Unless you resign, we can't get better because you don't know how to draft. As for FA the only way you get a good player is to break the bank or give away all of our top picks.
But keeping their own free agents might be just as important.
Just imagine how bad the Bears’ offensive line would have been last year without Olin Kreutz’s leadership and experience in the middle.
But the OL was the worst in the NFL so what is there to imagine?
So, even though he’ll be 34 before training camp starts — whenever that might be — and has 13 years of wear and tear, the Bears need him back for at least one more year to help guide a group in transition. With no heir apparent waiting in the wings at Halas Hall, that make Kreutz indispensable. Defensively, there are three starters who will be unrestricted free agents: nose tackle Anthony Adams, linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa and safety Danieal Manning. Adams was the most productive this season, starting all 16 games and leading the interior linemen in tackles with 36.
We have you to thank Jerry for all of those years of neglecting the OL.

Again, we're changing the variables to determine if Angelo is the common problem. Yes, he's neglected the o-line and only really brought in guys that were either too old, or injury prone. If this new scouting group doesn't fix ANYTHING, FA or draft wise, send Angelo down the river and simply BUY Scott Pioli away from the Chiefs.

Keep Olin. The rest can go . Use the money to sign O-linemen.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Bet some guys are going to be taking this off-season more seriously than normal in order to try and keep their jobs; and I'm hoping that, those we're forced to keep, if they have any pride, will do the same. Maybe this will be like the 84 Bears- lost the NFC championship game, then the next year.......................... !!!

Do think esp in year 2 of martz/tice the "O" will be alot better, and that's one of the big things to this offseason, which teams will do the work by themselves and which one's will not- also just IMO think teams with new coaches ad systems the longer this lockout goes worse these teams will be to start the season w/o any contact or knowing what they need to do, going to make for som bad football for these teams, and teams like bears that retain the Staffs have a big advantage
