    Martz Likes Small Receivers

Listen, there's been some discussion about the Bears getting a #1 WR, someone who is a tall, go up and get it guy. Well, after thinking about that it sounds right, however, Martz is a guy who likes small receivers like he had in St. Louis. Both Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce are only 6'0" tall. It's just what Martz wants; but it's not necessarily right.

Fans sometimes talk about what type of players the Bears should get based on their personal feelings, not on the type of players the coaches like.

If it were up to me I'd say go after a tall, go up and get it receiver. But it's about what Martz wants.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about a tall, go up and get it receiver. You'll probably be disappointed.

Hopefully there's a WR that Martz covets and the Bears are able to draft him. If that receiver is a small receiver in the mode of Holt or Bruce I won't complain.

    Just my $0.02.

you are paying wrong attention to what martz looks for in a wr. He wants smart wrs that know how to run the right routes. That has nothing to do with size. Now Cutler on the otherhand has been more successful with taller wrs that can stretch themselves for the ball

What? How small were his WRs in Detroit?

I was concentrating on his St. Louis tenure.

My whole point of this thread is to show the contingent of Bear fans who are clamoring for a tall "go up and get" receiver that that isn't necessarily what Martz wants.

Martz wants recievers who are quick and run every route in his playbook to perfection. Size has nothing to do with it.
If Holt was 6'3 he would not have rode the pine.
Fact is, he played the hand he was delt when he got to St Louis, and it turned out to be a royal flush. He never had to change it the whole time he was there. Holt and Bruce were Rams longer than he was (the last time, not total).

Bruce and Holt were both 6' even, which means they were slightly smaller due to the typical over inflation of height records

martz was gaga over detroit's calvin johnson when he was there as OC when marinelli chose johnson #2.
i think martz desires receivers with optimal body control and good hands. intelligence helps as well since
the playbook is big and a lot depends on the qb and wr being on the same page without audibilizing.

martz likes receivers that actually know what a route is
