That would be cool to have the Super Bowl in Chicago. Maybe that would be incentive for the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago to foot the bill to build the Bears a new stadium that would belong to them, not the city parks and recreation service. Sadly, I know that this is probably a fantasy because of the recent renovation and restructuring of Soldier Field, but the Bears should have a larger stadium to fit all of their fans, and preferably one with old Roman columns showing inside of the stadium like the "old" stadium had.

Didn't "old" Soldier Field used to seat like 90,000-100,000 fans back in the 1930s?

there isn't any space in the city for a new stadium, and most don't want to see it in the Suburbs, in addition to just spending $300+ mill of taxpayers money 8 yeasa go to spend another 1/2 billion or more. just not feasible.

And when soldier was 100K, alot of the seats were in the endzone and so far away even with binocular's had trouble seeing. To put this in perspective the old concourse inside the stadium( which many seats beheind) now the 2nd outer ring and while stadium is in fromt now. just awful sightlines.

heck in in 1970's-1990's in Soldier field it was 67,000,BUT 60% of the seats in the endzone's( and still very far away) and 40% along the sidelines.. In the new stadium its now 60% sidelines and only 40% endzone and MUCH better sightlines because built UP and not Out like the old soldier field, so you cn see the field and players even up top alot better than the old design

That kind of sounds like Michigan Stadium, Notre Dame Stadium, and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. They are bowl stadiums that bow out instead of going straight up. I still was disappointed when they got right of the Roman columns, but if what they did is as you said and the view is significantly better, I suppose it's all good.

I think the freak snowstorm in Dallas, which is more of an occurance in Chicago is another sign as to why there shouldn't be one there..And if the grass situation isn't fixed, no one's gonna want to watch much of a sloppy ass game either.

nice Pic and you really get a good idea how far away the old seats where, when realize went back to the columns AND that outer ring for the end zone seating for how BAD the seaing and sightlines were in that outer ring from endzone.. and why us older people that had to sit in the old configuration and bad sightlines really like the new stadium and sightlines and stadium, despite the questionable outside design that doesn't impact the fans at the stadium

Goodell OK with cold Super Bowls

DALLAS -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is not closing the book on cold-weather cities' hosting future Super Bowls.
Although Dallas is not technically a cold-weather city, the North Texas area is under siege after unusual amounts of ice and snow affected travel and business during Super Bowl week.
With so much at stake in terms of revenue in the days leading up to the Super Bowl, many wonder why the NFL would risk holding the event in a market that could experience severe weather.

"We have, and we are, in the sense that we are going to Indianapolis next year," Goodell said Friday. "But I think I need to emphasize again, this is a storm that's affecting most of our country. There are very few places in the country right now that aren't dealing with the aftereffects of this storm. It's an extraordinarily rare storm, and I think it's something this community has responded well to.

"When we chose to play in climates where this is more likely to happen, they are very capable of dealing with these types of issues. We have been very comfortable playing there. We have played in Detroit, Minnesota, we'll be playing in Indianapolis next year, and I think the people in those communities recognize the preparation that is necessary in that position."

The 2014 Super Bowl is scheduled to be played outdoors at New Meadowlands Stadium in New York. But the factor that gives New York, Indianapolis, Detroit and Dallas an edge over Chicago is their stadiums. All the other venues in question are relatively new and modern, with a seating capacity large enough to meet the NFL's Super Bowl requirements, which Soldier Field lacks. Plus, with the exception of New York, the other stadiums offer fans the opportunity to view the game indoors, away from potentially nasty weather.
Goodell seemed to suggest the host stadium is just as important as the host city or region.

"I think the stadium is a priority that is consistent across all 32 clubs [that vote on Super Bowl locations], because quite frankly, that's our stage," Goodell said. "You're going to be playing and seeing the Super Bowl [this Sunday] from one of the great stadiums in the world [Cowboys Stadium] and I think that will demonstrate the importance of having great facilities for all of our games, including the Super Bowl. The fact it can handle the weather by closing the roof is a benefit in this case." Jeff Dickerson covers the Bears for ESPNChicago.com and ESPN 1000.

Exactly. I've been to the new Cowboys Stadium, and from everything I've heard about Soldier Field, there's no comparison. Simply NONE.
