    A fashionably late Bears review...

Here are some quick and random thoughts on the 2010 Bears:

    QB:
Jay Cutler, grade B: He did well. He did very well for a QB that was sacked so much more than any QB in the league. He also did very well for having no real WR’s on the receiving end of his passes. Did he make some bad decisions…??? Yes. However, he did throw (10) less interceptions. He performed very well with the tools he was given. Next season, if there is one, I would like to see him play even smarter football.
Todd Collins: Really…??? Who did he blow to even make the roster, let alone the 2nd string…???
Caleb Hanie, grade A+: For a player whom the Bears had so little faith in that they buried him 3rd on the roster behind Todd Collins, the kid played his ass off. I would be surprised to see Hanie resigned. He made the coaching staff look inept on MORE than one occasion. I am not sure what he would have to do to secure that 2nd QB spot.
Coaching staff, grade F: Todd Collins…??? Maybe we could get Jonathon Quinn back, enough said.

    RB:
Matt Forte, grade A: Considering the O-line that he was forced to run behind early in the season, and, the NON-threatening pass game, he performed well above his expectations. Include his pass catching skills, and seriously, you could not ask for more.
Chester Taylor, grade D: Based on his pay to play scale, his grade is a solid “D”. It is a fact that he was paid a crap-load of money. However, it is to be determined as to whether or not his lack of playing time was due to the coaching staff or his lack of talent. Or, a mixture of both. (16) yards a game…?!? Really…??? How much money did the Bears seemingly waste…???

    WR’s:
WR's, Grade D-: The Bears WR corp is (28th) in the league in yards per game. How much of that falls on the QB and how much on the WR’s is to be determined, but, the Bears really have some work to do with this position. The Bears barely had (3) receivers with better than a (500) yard season, and, (0) thousand yarder. It is a great group of #2's, but, they REALLY need a #1...!!!

    TE’s:
Greg Olsen, grade C+: For a player whom was said to be a non-factor in a Mike Martz offense, he did very well this season. He could learn how to block better, but, so could the line. He was once again one the the teams top TD makers. If he was not such a target by being one of the few productive receivers, he could actually be a huge threat.
Brandon Manumalalalalalaauuummmma, grade F: Speaking of non-factors. WAY over-paid non-factors on top of it…

    O-line:
O-line, grade C: Like the WR’s, this group could use quite the tune-up. Early in the season there was too much shuffling to make an impact. With that being said, if there was any real talent on the line, there would not have been that much movement…!!! Also, with all of the needs at O-Line, the Bears can not afford to lose Kreutz. It will be interesting to see who the Bears bring back this off-season. Where should the Bears spend our money…??? It will depend on whom is available. All you practice squad players, get your agents ready…!!!

    K/P:
K/P, grade B: They did their job. I really do not have much to say positive or negative.

    Defense:
Defense, grade A: This is just an overall point of view. The defense did their jobs spectacularly. With the exceptions of a few players, the defense was the highlight of the season. The defense was great against the run, but, gave up the pass plays rather frequently. Was this because of the scheme (and the 20 yard cushions on WR’s), or, because of a weak secondary. Personally, I blame the scheme. Overall, they were effective. I would LOVE to see more pressure from the front (4), but, hopefully, that will not be an issue next season. Julius Peppers is a beast.

    Special Teams:
Special Teams, grade B: The Bears have some dangerous returners. Keep Hester where he belongs and do not fix anything that is NOT broken…!!!

I agree for the most part, but the offensive line getting a C? I think you are off by a grade or two. Most likely two grades.

Fix the OL and I believe you fix the qb, running game and wrs get better. Too many times the wrs were not ready for the ball because Jay had no time to throw the ball. The running game was not so great also but I think having a few holes to run through would have made a huge difference in the passing game.

I really doubt that a better O-Line would improve the WR's...!!! It may help, but, they could really use an upgrade...

Well, Forte had a nice season and Cutler only had ONE concussion. The late season group did a much better job. They were, the best of the worst...!!!

Over 50 sacks, probably close to 100 hits, a concussion..... Late season heroics or not, showing up at the end of the season or not, they still get an F in my books.

Tommy Harris usually shows up at the end of the season, after sleeping through the first several games. Would you give him a C?

When Jay has time to complete a pass the wrs seem to look much better. There were games where Jay had time and the wrs could actually complete their routes.

Even Jonathan Quinn would represent a huge upgrade over Todd Collins. However, neither one of these names should ever be mentioned on this site again. I get really bad thoughts when I think about either of them.
