29. Chicago Bears: Gabe Carimi OT, Wisconsin: The Bears O-Line played a lot better this year under the direction of Mike Tice, but they could still use some help. Carimi brings a solid run blocking game along with a whole lot of potential.

SI:
29
OT Derek Sherrod Mississippi State Jr. 6-5 280 The Bears have decent options when their turn comes around. They can get help for the offensive line that caused them so many headaches, particularly early in the season, or address their needs at either defensive tackle, receiver or cornerback. Sherrod is the highest-rated remaining tackle, but Texas cornerback Aaron Williams and LSU defensive tackle Drake Nevis would also make sense.

Why just one puppy, why not like 10-12, of both male and female so they can mate.. just in case he has a need for more for some reason.

Forget Nate Solder. We already have a finesse type LT in Williams who can't seem to earn and keep that position and Solder is just a taller clone of Williams. If it's a LT we go after (assuming we can fill the OG gap in FA) then I'd say JA should move heaven and earth to draft Gabe Carimi. The Big Ten may be weak in some departments but one of them is not offensive lineman and Wisconsin and Iowa turn out some of the best.
Once upon a time we drafted a #1 OT out of Wisconsin by the name of Dennis Lick and he would have been a great one if he hadn't suffered a career ending back injury (sound familiar). I think it's high time we dipped into that pond again. Carimi replaced Joe Thomas as the Badgers LT and no one in Madison has complained about Thomas being missed.
We all know how much JA hates to move up but in this case I think he needs to get on the aggressive side and go after Carimi with as much effort as he needs to put into going after Mankins or Nicks. If we don't get this kid he'll become an All-Pro for someone else.

Soul do not think we need to move up, most mocks have Camrini available at 29th to us..guess that could change if he has a great Combine, but right now we would just need to hang tight to get him and would , like you, hve no problem with him being the pick
Though his knee is a "slight worry"
Initial Quickness: Elite first step in his kick slide and lateral movement, does not get beat off the edge very often. Also explodes off the ball on run plays, is capable of driving his man back a few yards. Defenders will take advantage of the quickness to take him upfield or knock him off balance, however. Downfield: Excellent footwork and agility to get downfield. Reaches linebackers at the second level and defensive backs further downfield equally well. Knows the proper angle to cut off defenders from the ballcarrier. Good lateral movement once engaged, gives effort to sustain against smaller defenders. Tends to bend at the waist and punch instead of moving after initial contact. Intangibles: Solid player with strong work ethic, as well as football and general intelligence. Received multiple Academic All-American and All-Big Ten awards. Missed three games in 2008 with right MCL sprain, but played through maladies in 2009: slight tear in right MCL scarring, left AC joint (shoulder) sprain, H1N1 virus. Fasted for 24 hours before 2008 game against Iowa in observance of Yom Kippur.

If we can't get Camrini the LG of the Badgers (name escapes me) is a intriguing prospect. Maybe Sox or others have a opinion of him.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

The fact that he has elite pass blocking skills as well as being a true people mover as a run blocker makes me believe that he won't be around at #29. He may not be a top 20 pick and then again maybe he may but I don't want to see us get beat out of a guy like we did when the "Donkeys" nabbed Clady right in front of us and we settled for Williams.
We need an LT with his specific skill set and JA needs to target this guy and do whatever it takes to get him. I really can't think of a bigger Oline need than to get Cutler the blindside pass protection he needs and if we can get it with a guy who's also a monster run blocker so much the better.
If we miss on an OG in FA I still believe that we can pick up quality lineman after the first round to compete with Williams at the LG spot and if not we can probably live with him once he gets a little more experience under his belt.

[QUOTE=dabears54;789652]most have Camini the 4th-6th best OT in this draft, so likely to last:
Hope so because I think he'll prove to be a better pro than any of them ranked higher. Can't see Solder ranked that high unless it's his height (wingspan?) and 40 time that put him there. CU had a shitty year and he by no means dominated against better teams. Plus to me he's undersized at 315lb although I don't doubt that he'll be asked to bulk up in the pros. To me he's another Chris Williams type. More finesse than power.
The next three come in smaller packages than Tice usually likes to have and I don't think that one of them dominates against both the pass and the run the way that Carimi does. Carimi is a guy who has J'Marcus Webb size but is far more polished and in all likelihood ready to start since he played in a pro style system at UW. If he's ranked as high as #4 (and I think that will change before the draft) he still may go well before #29 and once again we end up with picking whoever was our second choice once again.
I'd like to avoid that this time around.
