Like the cuts/don't resign except that I'd still keep a light on for Manning if he wants to return. He finally seems to be hitting his stride at strong safety. Harris needs to go but not unless we've inked a viable replacement. We might try to trade him on draft day though he probably won't bring more than a mid round pick at this point in the game.

The bring backs are all good except for R. Davis and Wilson. We need size at WR and Davis is everything but a bigger receiver. We've pretty much replaced or will replace his ST play with others including Corey Graham, Garrett Wolfe, Zack Bowman etc. I'll also go with you on the FA signings in as much as we need a replacement for an aging Maynard, although is we don't get one we still wouldn't be that bad off, and Floyd may be an inexpensive route to go for a tall wideout.

I don't know about the OG pick though. The FA sigining of an OG needs to be a can't miss proposition right now. We can't afford another Omiyale and so far the two that most have projected to be just that are Mankins and Nicks. If we take a guy any lower on the ladder, just to save a few bucks, and he doesn't pan out we'll be paying the price for it next year just like we did with Omiyale. In this area I think we need to think big and go after the prize just like we did with Peppers. We now know the difference that guys like that can make to a unit's success.

Draftees look great at nos. #2, #3 and #4 but not so good at #1. Why draft a guy who played OT in college and then move him into that key OLG spot when you may be able to draft a guy like Gabe Carimi to play in his normal position at OLT? If we need an OLG more than an OLT (which I doubt considering the play of both OMG and Williams) then why not draft the top guys who have played OG througout their college careers? If we can't get a guy like Nevis in round #2 then OG's like Danny Watkins of Baylor and John Moffitt of Wisconsin should be around in round #2 or possibly even early in round #3 if we can pick up a high 3rd.

A player like Nevis might be a real find in round #2 if he lasts that long but if not is there anyone else out there like him or even a widebody 330-340lb NT who can collapse the pocket the way the guys on the GB Dline do? Our problem on the line is the lack of an inside pass rush ever since Tommie Harris lost it. If we can't get a 3T guy then get a people pusher and move "Toe" to the 3T spot along with Melton and let the rookie rotate with Adams. We've also got "Toe's" buddy Tank Tyler signed and maybe he can prove to be a tank on the field and leave the off the field issues alone unlike the last "Tank" we signed.

As an alternative to another safety in the 3rd, since we may have improved that spot with regaining Harris and drafting Wright, another consideration would be rookie MLB to apprentice under Urlacher. I have a real good feeling about Clay Matthews little brother Casey out of Oregon. You have to admit that the pedigree is damn good and he can give us depth at SLB as well if we can't retain both Pisa and Roach. His 40 time isn't all that great but watching him in the BCS Bowl Game I was impressed by how instinctive a playmaker the guy seems to be. He wouldn't be a reach in the 3rd in my opinion.

I don't know much about your picks from the 5th on down but you may need to move up your 7th to a 6th. If I'm not mistaken the Bears spent that 7th in last years supplemental draft on Harvey Unga. That aside I'd maybe move that DB pick down to the 5th or 6th spot since whoever we pick is probably slotted for ST's if he makes the roster at all. I wouldn't pick another Olinman that low (5th)either. We've got enough of that type sitting on the p-squad and futures contracts already. We need to spend at least two of the first three picks on the Oline.

Nice piece of work Windy. Just because my thoughts differ from your doesn't mean that I think yours are wrong. It's just a matter of opinion.

and nevis is NOT lasting to the 61st pick, heck many mocks have him in first or at worst top of 2nd.

This draft is DL heavy with an estimated 8 1st round DEs and at least 4 DTs rated higher then him he could fall, but your right we will not know till draft day.

The Olsen idea is just something that I am trying out as I see him wasting away in Martz's system.

Deunte has been a big favorite of mine and I have mentioned him here/dbz for at least two seasons. His suspension this year is the only reason he would be available so late (even moreso than his broken leg), and would be the steal of the draft there, IMHO. Seriously, I love the kid.

Really, though, I think your rounds 2-4 are players that are going to be long gone by that time.

What do you think of Marcus Cannon instead of Ben Ijalana?

His weight concerns me, but he is a powerhouse that we need.

I think in part because right now we have good enough depth there to hold off for another season since we have some serious needs in the trenches and at CB. This is just my opinion, of course, but while I'm cool with grabbing young depth and upside later at the position, we will still be in the position to grab one early next year. So, yeah, we COULD certainly use a quality draft pick there right now. However, when you prioritize needs, LB is hidden behind a lot immediate standouts lacking a starter like OT, OG, C, CB, WR and UT, it's not hard to see why it's not on peoples boards. Hell, I'd prioritize S depth and backup HB right now over a LB.
