Congratulations to Richard Dent! He should have been voted into the Hall of Fame long ago. How many other defensive ends have been named Super Bowl MVP?

Richard Dent is one of only two defensive ends and just eight defensive players overall to be voted Super Bowl MVP. The only other defensive end to earn the honor was the Dallas Cowboys’ Harvey Martin, who shared the honor with teammate Randy White, a defensive tackle, in 1978. Other defensive players who have been named Super Bowl MVP are Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley in 1971 (the only Super Bowl MVP from a losing team), Miami Dolphins safety Jake Scott in 1973, Cowboys cornerback Larry Brown in 1996, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis in 2001 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dexter Jackson in 2003.

When was the last time the Bears offense was ranked higher than the defense?

The last time that occurred was in 2007 when the Bears offense ranked 27th in the NFL in total yards and the defense finished 28th. The offense has ranked higher than the defense six times since 1981. In addition to 2007, it also happened in 1983, 1989, 1992, 1995 and 1999. In 2010, the defense ranked ninth and the offense finished 30th. That’s the greatest disparity since 2005 when the defense was second and the offense was 29th.





Is there any truth to the rumor that Chester Taylor is going to be released? I would think that would be an expensive one-year experiment.

I’ve heard rumors in the media about a handful of different players. But no personnel decisions have been made at this point. Bears coaches returned to Halas Hall Tuesday after having some time off and will spend the next two weeks evaluating the team’s players. Those reports will then be shared with the personnel department as the Bears prepare for free agency and the draft.
