    193Nate SolderOTColorado6

    214Derek SherrodOTMississippi State

    295Gabe CarimiOTWisconsin
In most rankings Carimi is ranked #2 and projected to be a top 20 pick in the draft.

I would love Logan Mankins and Carimi, but I do not know if that fixs our LT problem.

All this talk about Gathers and no one is even mentioning Marshal Yanda from the same line? Seriously, just watch the tape on the kid at RG and it's hard not to love his play. Hell, he even had better year at RT this year than any of our OTs. I remember him falling in the draft because he only had 32" arms, but he has become a beast and is so underrated for what he did for the Ravens run blocking. With Mankins getting the Franchise Tag, Yanda is now my #2 wanted OL behind Kalil.

Yeah, with this jumble at OT this year, really any one of the top 5 can be #1 depending on who you talk to. I wouldn't bet against any one of them going top 20, but I also wouldn't bet against one of them falling to us. Carimi is hard to pass up with his run blocking and tools, so he'll still go early despite his struggles against speed off the edge.

think they are trying to keep him and move him to guard FWIW

Yanda to become team's full-time right guard

Ravens coach John Harbaugh has vocally expressed his desire to move Marshal Yanda to right guard full-time.
"Personally, I like Marshal Yanda at right guard," he said. "I think that's his position. He's a dominant puller. He's physical. If you can put a nice, big right tackle next to him, that would really help." Baltimore experienced a lack of front five continuity throughout 2010. Yanda is a free agent, so the Ravens will have to re-sign him before anything else. Jan 22, 9:22:00 AM

There are a lot of options in the realistic OG category. The only reason I mentioned Gaither is because he plays LT.

    Realistic OGs

    1. Justin Blalock [Atlanta]
    2. Marshal Yanda [Ravens]
    3. Davin Joseph [Bucs]

How does it not Windy? Carimi plays LT and while it may take some adjustment to the speed of NFL edge rushers the guy has all the tools to be a great NFL tackle. He's a load, a monster run blocker and still retains the feet and quickness to be a very good pass blocker. The guy is a mountain and tough to get around much like J'Marcus Webb who's about the same size as Carimi.

I don't hold out any real hope that we'll land Mankins so I'm looking for the next best solution for a LG in FA and then pick another in the mid rounds of the draft who might also compete for the OC spot behing Kruetz. Carimi's U of W partner, Moffitt may fit the bill around the 4th round as well as that kid Watkins from Baylor.

Gabe showed some legit problems with handling speed off the edge and that will get more pronounced against pros. I'm not the only one who thinks RT is the right spot for him because of his generational run blocking ability and questionable kickslide speed. He does have excellent quickness, but his feet can get pretty heavy as he's going through his progression and doesn't always hold up well mechanically in pass pro.

Thanks for the feedback sox. Most of the guys who come out of Wisconsin get the rap of not being top notch pass blockers because they're not as nifty looking on their feet as others but the same could have been said about his predecessor and Joe Thomas haas done OK for himself. I think he's got the tools to overcome that.

    Carimi is not Joe Thomas.

I think that Carimi could play LT in a power running attack like Pittsburgh or Dallas, but we are a pass happy offense and we need a real stud at LT.

Just because they want to keep him doesn't mean it's going to happen. He is precisely what our interior needs. Heck with him, maybe we can weather another year with Olin.
