The Greg Olsen Trade Question [Sun Times]
He enters the final year of his contract, which calls for him to make a modest $900,000, and Olsen's agent Drew Rosenhaus will surely push for a lucrative extension. The Bears have traditionally been proactive under general manager Jerry Angelo, but they may be more guarded this offseason and, perhaps, in the future.
If Martz wants to take advantage of Olsen's versatility, as he suggested, then the Bears should consider a long-term deal to keep him around. But if he doesn't, then the Bears should shop him and trade him.

I really think the Bears need to look at trading him before he walks for nothing.
-He is going to get paid at some point and anything over what he makes right now is not good value to the Bears.
-Mike Martz is probably never going to use him as he should and Olsen will want to leave.
These factor lead me to believe that we should use Olsen for whatever value he has. Because right now he is a luxury on a team with real holes.

Agreed. He made some real strides this season. In the past, he was nothing more than a wide receiver. Now, he blocks and catches passes whenever Martz needs him to. I think we need to sign him to a long term deal, too.

Honestly, Hanie is 5x more important than Olsen. He's only had good game this past year.

I'd tend to agree w/that but PLEASE get rid of Manu first.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Who do we have to thank for getting us Manu? Lets get rid of him first and then focus on the players.

We could always bite the bullet and pick up Jeremy Shockey and cut Manumaleuna.

So continue going with too many TEs, while ignoring the weaknesses of OL and WR?

Well, no. I'm saying that we could cut Manumaleuna or Desmond Clark and put Jeremy Shockey in their slot on the roster. I'm not saying that we neglect the OL and WR positions at all.

Shockey will likely cost more than what either one will be making next year, so we would not be saving money or making an even swap. That is all I am saying. Money spent on him, no matter which one (Dez or Manu) is cut, will take away from more important needs.

I also think that Clark is a FA, he wasn't listed in DB's salary cap thread for 2011
But Manu makes
17.Manumala $1,495,000 $400,000 1 mill -0- $2,895,000 2014
I think Shockey will cost more than that
