Bears expected to bring back C Olin Kreutz

Bears expected to bring back C Olin Kreutz

Veteran should get a 4th contract from team Brad Biggs

There are only four projected unrestricted free agents for the Chicago Bears, and at least one of them is expected to return.
The Bears are expected to pursue veteran center Olin Kreutz for a fourth contract and bring him back to anchor on offensive line that will be in a rebuilding phase.

Kreutz, who turns 34 in June, has started 134 consecutive games and with the Bears expected to pursue help at offensive tackle and guard, he’ll be the pivot man again. In a perfect world, the team would probably like to use him to mentor a younger player not yet on the roster.

Kreutz expressed a desire to remain with the Bears at the end of last season. It looks like the question will be whether he receives a one- or two-year deal.

hope its just a one year deal, which think a smart move, even if get a future C/OG. having kreutz on team as the leader/mentor/depth worth one more year

Agreed. We've got way bigger issues on the OL to worry about than Kreutz. A one-year deal would be perfect.

Exactly,in the least good depth, and in 2010, while on downside of career, he was still productive, and we need that.. spend the F/A dollars on a top Guard and get a center in draft

Let's not forget something; despite the presence of 'Lacher, Briggs, et.al, on the offensive side of the ball, Kreutz is king. He's the undisputed Bear there, and probably on the team.

While I'm all in favor of grooming his replacement this season, I'm not at all in favor of s***-canning him. There's got to be some leeway; in the locker room, he is The Bear. One more season for Kreutz... at the least.

how does being in top 5 consideration for the pro bowl this year = crappy player?

Edit: I'm all about seeking out Kruetz replacement as well, but saying he's crap is just..... stupid for lack of a better word.

spot on... no one is saying kreutz's best days aren't behind him.. and we def. need to groom a replacement, but the idea of him 'crap' and over is just wrong. he is still in the top 1/2 of league center's.. and assaid as a back up in the least still needed. do not get the hatred

Probowl is nothing but a popularity contest. You really believe he was one of the top 5 centers? I sure dont. Especially not in the run game...the runs up the gut usually amounted to tackles for losses, thanks to outstanding play by our OL to let defenders right in. nothing about his play in 2010 was anything to be excited about for 2011...as i said...past his prime. Everyone is simply holding on to nothing more but his attitude, but his attitude doesnt help win games, not anymore at least.

Honestly I'm of mind to replace the whole interior of the line and either move williams back to LT or just eliminate the position altogether. There was NO running up the middle this year, tho I do remember the guards pulling well on swing plays.
