It's not enough, unless you see Melton playing inside ALOT.

I thought that Melton earned more playing time?
Also I expect him to come back at 300lbs. and really establish himself in the interior rotation.

Problem is, Mebane just isn't a 3-tech at all. I know people see one pretty good season rushing the passer and immediately think he can be that B gap UT, but he isn't that type of player.

He was good in doses, but you would be hanging your hat on a cardboard hat rack if you go into the season with anyone on our team as your key interior DT. I don't think you're getting the fact that all of our DTs, to the man, is a rotation player. Not one single dominant force and not one single three down player. Our D NEEDS a dominant 3-tech, not "ifs" like Henry or square pegs in round holes like Mebane. I hate to be a parrot, but it is pathetic looking back at how little pressure we got from the interior this year and it's only a matter of time before that luck wears out.

To me it was more pathetic watching our WRs get pushed around by the Green Bay Packers in week 17.
I know we need a dominant 3 technique, but this team will go as far as Jay Cutler can take them and right now he has a #2, and 3 #3s but he does not have a #1.
I would argue that the interior DL talent is as bad as the WR talent, but one has a negative affect on Jay and one did not hurt us as much.
We are wasting Jay Cutler's talents with these WRs.

Give Jay a line that can hold up and give him time, and I think it's an entirely different story. You can see Martz knew how to use the WRs from the get-go with the way he was attempting to stretch the field every single play and extend the D's coverage with our big threats past the intermediate. Problem was we didn't have guys who could hold for a 7 step drop, or even a five step drop and the game plan shifted away from our receiving corps' strength. We need help in both trenches immediately before I worry about skill players outside of the slim chance we have a shot at a top 3-4 CB in round 1.

That was true for most games, but when we played dominant defenses like Green Bay our WRs never got of the line.

With Harris gone and Harrison showing nothing we need to draft at least one UT and either draft another or FA. Melton is a wildcard as to if he can gain weight and be productive with extra reps.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Windy, your biggest FA selection is a true NT when our biggest need is a 3t UT. Mebane may provide a push up the middle but the real pressure, as you admit we need badly, will come from the UT not the NT. If the Bears do re-sign AA which they say they are trying to do then Mebane won't be a priority either.

Let me get this straight. You're expecting a 260lb DE/UT (his listed weight) who was once a RB in college to add 40 lbs and still retain his quickness and athleticism? Why would you even think of asking him to do that? He's already done it once in order to play defense at Texas.
We tried that before when we switched Izzy to DT and not only did we lose him on ST's but didn't get anywhere near what we're now getting out of him at DE. Melton could probably gain 10-15 with no loss of present ability but 40lbs? I don't think so.
