If you are not going to use him as a RB what is he on the team for?
He backed up Forte in 2009 when Forte was hurt and had to reduce his carry's. He averaged 5.5 ypc including a 72 yard run against Philly in his debut game. Pretty much a one cut back who showed some burst to the hole and some toughness when running inside. He was inactive most of last season.

One thing I noticed was that when Taylor did have a decent positive runs it was in between Webb and Garza. Weather it's Bell or Unga that side might be favored if we field basically the same O-line next season. No matter who's back there it's going to be a tough road to hoe.

If I'm wrong he'll have this year to prove it since he won't be going anywhere for at least one more season. Forte, Taylor, Bell and Unga should form a good backfield and since they tendered him it looks like they want to keep Bell around.
I like Bell to; and would have loved to see a 3 back offense; kinda like what we did w/TJ/Benson/AP. But I don't think Bell showed anything outside of that run that tells me he was going to be better then Taylor this year. And I think this OL was worse then the one we had last year; and it was worse then the one we had the one we had before that etc etc all the way back to the super bowl. But if you felt this OL was better then last years; I could see where you are coming from. I just don't agree with it.

No choice now but to sign : TIKI BARBER who sez he is coming back after retired for four years.
We can rest Forte 90% of the time. Sombody toss me another Sam Adams.

If only our GM knew that.

As the Bears coach, would you keep a guy on the squad who rushed for only 2.4 ypc behind the same line that your workhorse back rushed for 4.5 ypc? Actually you might and that's why we'll always be in disagreement about Taylor. No big deal, it's just an opinion.
You say Tomatoe and I say Tomato, you say Taylor and I say Bell, so let's call the whole thing off.

Did he take some of the weight of Forte, seems like it. Did we steal him from the team that won the division that really needed him to be their 3rd down back, yes absolutely. Did we overpay for him; sure, but in an upcapped year I could care less about overpaying someone. As the OL improved so did his play; we fix the OL, I think his #'s take a huge jump; and then yes, he is worth what we are paying him from here on out.
agreed, do not think taylor was a badmove at all , esp the way the contract was structured in the "no cap year"... was a dissappointment at times? sure.. but he still had value and do think he's fine going foward, and still would feel more comfortable in 2011, if god forbid forte goes down, talor the #1 over bell, just because he's done it before... Sometimes people forget how difficult it is to be a #1 Back, and the NFl is littered with Rb's with a few good games in a back up role, that when have to start ad take the Pounding each week fade real fast, and not saying bell couldn't but would not feel comortable at all with him as the only option or him and unga

Haha, just what we need, a 35 year old RB who hasn't played in 4 years. He can take the place of Todd Collins as our annual designated "be nice to a washed up vet" player.
Besides the rumor said that he wanted to play in Tampa Bay with Ronde.
We're out of Sam Adams. Take a Guiness instead.

Trouble is that we've spent a lot of money on comfort players these past few years (Pace, Manu, Taylor, Collins, etc.) and gotten little or nothing for our trouble. I'm well aware that it didn't affect the "cap" but it's still $$$ out the door no matter how you look at it. Real cash money paid out in either upfront bonus or inflated salaries.
If I'm Ted Phillips and I'm guarding the McCaskey coffers before I keep shelling out that kind of money I'm gonna ask to see better results than those guys provided. Not every dollar spent brought us a Julius Peppers and when you think about it some of that $$$ could have been put towards extending our own guys instead of letting them reach FA.

Guess my point is with he cap back THAT will not happen anymore and in the "no use crying over spilled milk", you move from on from it... And honestly over the last 2-3 years what F/A did we let go you would have kept at what they got elsewhere?
think we have done a very good job retaining the core players we want
