I don't think there is any veteran qb willing to take the beating Jay Cutler took last year but I agree we need a few more qbs on our roster to fill in for Jay when he gets broken again.

Haha, it is a rather dormant offseason on the players switching teams thing isn't it. Since they get paid to write I guess when there's so little to write about you're allowed to make up things so that you can sell newspapers.

They can sign as many arms as they want but Hanie a should be going into camp as the #2 with it being his job to lose. I don't think he will in any kind of fair competition. They can bring in a very cheap vet with very little experience or a rookie developmental guy too for all I care but don't fvck around with Hanie. The guys on his way to being a very good #2.

That's exactly what it is. He even eludes to in the artical that its based on them wanting a vet last year, which a lot of teams do for a new/learning QB. It isn't a necessity now.

yep, usually this time have all the draft articles, all the "which F/A is in town, who will sign etc".. makes for an "easy" late feb/march stuff for them.. but w/o it you can see they really struggle... heck the NWherald hasn't written a story ina week, the daily herald barely writing and even ESPN chicago struggling with stuff the last few weeks, and biggs was silent until his 10 parter about playing time yesterday..So now into the 'innuendo and rumor" stuff to get page views. Soon the Score and a few writers will start the "is jay practicing? stuff and wat kind of leader stuff to fuel the page views if teh CBA falls Apart and nothing to write about..lolol

We had a rookie last year but we cut him.

Yeah, and they've got Gutierrez this year plus whoever else they bring to camp. Martz just needs to get over this I gotta have a vet QB thing. Hell, with the way Hanie played against GB he's already a vet. Martz just needs to annoint him is all.

as far as keeping him the number two that was just Lovie "genius" at work lol
People have their own versions of history. Collins was brought in after Hanie had an injury that could take up to a month to recover from. And Collins was like the 4th choice after more able bodied QBs like McCown and Garcia chose the UFL over the Bears.
Cutler took 4 snaps in the first preseason game and they pulled him because they couldn't protect him. He played a half in the second and was sacked 5 times and hit 8 more.
LeFevour completed 19 of 41 passes in preseason before the Bears signed Collins, and looked like shit doing it.
KNOWING that there would be problems protecting Jay (and there were, weren't there) do you blame them for not wanting Bennet acadamies pride and joy one torn MCL away from leading the Bears for god knows how long.
Collins wasn't brought in because Martz was pining for a vet. He was brought in because they needed somebody who didn't need time to learn how to run more than 5 plays and he was the ONLY guy that would take the job.
Now keeping him at #2? It baffles me and pisses me off, but then again, I don't know what kind of clauses he had in his contract. I do recall it took some coaxing to get him to take himself out of mothballs.

Sorry Globe, you're right. I didn't get a chance to follow the team in preseason or for the first month of the season so I had forgotten the injury to Hanie and didn't know about other QB's turning us down. Thanks for bringing me up to speed.
