It's Unanimous..............................
Even though I think the guy is just another know it all talking head come draft day Mel Kiper agrees with this boards consensus of what we need to be drafting. As usual, I don't necessarily agree with his picks though.

To me Solder is a big no no. He still has a way to go in my mind so if we want an immediate starter he isn't it. I still think he's CWill 2.0.
I want Carimi, Costonzo or a DT in the first and I really don't like any of the second round OT's he lists.
His picks for a DT in the second are sound though. One or more of these guys should be around late in the second although I prefer to get either Liuget or Paea in the first and sign an OT and an OG in FA.

With the 29th pick of the draft, the Bears select DT Corey Liuget

Yesss! Everyday that goes by I think more and more that he's the guy we should pick. I think there are far more top prospects at DT than at OT. If we can get an established OT and an OG in FA we can free up some choices in the draft.

Look what Mike Tice did with J'Marcus Webb.
Give Mike Tice a year with Nate Solder and we might have another Tony Boselli on our hands. Solder's problems are technical and things that Tice can correct.
I do not love Solder, but I know what Tice can do with a prototype athlete.

Windy JWebb is still very much a work in progress and we don't really know just how good he'll get. He may become a real solid player or he may eventually hit a wall. Too early to tell but I'll admit he did make progress.
Tony Boselli was a stud OT right out of the box. No instruction needed. You can compare him to Solder if you want but I won't. If you think that Tice can make a great LT out of Solder who can't really run block just think of what he might accomplish with Carimi who can.

My mock 2.0 has the top six OL all gone by 25 with a big run starting with NYG. I did, however, have Liuget falling to us. If it came down to him Vs Ijalana or Cannon, I grab Liuget all day every day and never think twice. Though, I really hope we don't get boned out of top tier talent at both our top needs at 29, there are worse options than trading down this year with a nice mix of second tier UTs and OL there in the second and early third.

Solder doesn't fit the mold of a Tice project. Webb does. Tice likes big, wide linemen. Look at what he assembled in Minny and look what he's brought to the Bears so far.

That's what I'd do too without even thinking twice. If the run is on for Olineman then the DT's like Liuget and Paea should be there.

I don't think we have to worry about Paea going before us, IMHO. I haven't had him higher than 37 to the Browns and just don't see him on par upside-wise with the other late first round DTs.

With the 29th pick the bears trade down.
