I agree DB. Most of Hester's returns tend to come on punts, so 75-80% of his kick returns, provided that we resign and leave Danieal Manning to man the kickoffs, will remain untouched unless the league screws things up further by forcing the ball to be kicked further behind the final down marker of an offensive series.

One can only hope that the NFL owners will get their heads screwed on completely straight over the CBA shit (as well as the players) and, second, reverse the rule on kicking from the 35 back to kicking at the 30.
Wasn't the new rule in place a long time ago, though, DB?

By what percentage, if you know this offhand, did the number of kickoffs result in a return for a touchdown increase? Are we absolutely sure that we will no longer have a competitive advantage against our competition? We will still obviously have it in punt returns, but with our blockiing capabilities on kickoffs and Hester's and Manning's speed, I have to believe that we still average getting to the 30 yard line or better on kickoffs, which is still a positive.
Its a strange stat, because at first it did reduce he # of td's and then leveled off though late90's and early 2000's, but in the last 3 years the td's and big return's have exploded in the NFl( and not just hester), 2007 and 2010 the 2 biggest years in nfl history for returns

I am not going to worry about the rule. This will just make it that much more imperative for the Bears to go out and upgrade their offense. They have to become more like the other competitive teams who rely so heavily on their offenses to stay in the hunt for divisional, conference, and Super Bowl championships. This may be what makes or breaks Jerry Angelo's career since he has been so heavily slanted in drafting solid defensive players versus a lot of offensive talent (with the exception of Matt Forte, Greg Olsen, and Johnny Knox).
