The Bears Draft Board [Player Rankings]
The Bears Big Board
Many prospects were not included as they have a 0% chance of making it to the 29th pick.
OT Tyron Smith [USC]/Will Be Gone
OT Anthony Costanzo [Boston College] Will Be Gone
1. OT Gabe Carimi [Wisconsin]
A versatile OT that can play OG and has the work ethic and attitude the Bears need on the OL.
2. OG Mike Pouncey [Florida]
Again a player that offers versatility to the OL and has the athletic ability to dominate at OG or C.
3. DT Cory Ligiut [Illinois] Will Be Gone
He has everything you look for as a Cover 2 DT, but he also has the strength to fit in with other fronts and will likely be picked by 29.
4. OG Marcus Cannon [TCU]
A physical freak at 65 350lbs and with amazing athletic ability a move inside and Mike Tices coaching could create a monster.
5. OT Derek Sherrod [Mississippi State]
A solid LT with all the tools, but not a dominator.
6. OT Nate Solder [Colorado]
Has all the physical tools, but none of the tape or technique. I think he may be too much of a risk for Aneglo who struggles with OLmen.
7. DT Muhammed Wilkerson [Temple]
At 64 315lbs and with a burst off the ball he could be the pass rusher on the interior that the Bears need. Less red flags then other DT prospects at this point.
8. DT Marvin Austin [UNC]
He may be a head case but he has elite numbers 62 309lbs, 38 [225], 4.8 [40] and a coach like Marinelli could turn him into the pass rusher the Bears need.
9. DT Stephen Paea [Oregon St]
A stout physical penetrator that has some injury concerns and does not dominate up to his numbers.
10. WR Torrey Smith [Maryland]
A deep threat that has an unquestioned work ethic. Showed above average hands at his Pro Day.
11. OG Orlando Franklin [Miami]
A physical mauler with experience at LT and LG, has started to creep into the late 1st round of more and more mocks.
12. WR Leonard Hankerson [Miami]
At 62 209lbs has the physical size and build that the Bears need at WR, concentration problems have limited him.
13. OG Clint Boling [Georgia]
He does not jump off paper or film, but he is a solid lunch pail worker that can start at a number of positions.
14. C Stefen Wisniewski [Penn State]
A technician and a student of the game who will never dominate but can anchor an OL.
15. OT Ben Ijalana [Villanova]
A raw physical specimen that could start out at OG and could rise with increased coaching and competition.
16. DT Drake Nevis [LSU]
Smaller than ideal, but has an explosive first step and can disrupt a pocket.

Not bad Windy but I'd make some changes (naturally huh, LOL).
Push Liuget above Pouncey and Ijilana ahead of Sherrod. Now take Solder and Cannon down board and move Paea and Nevis ahead of them then Wilkerson and Austin. Add Marcus Gilbert in the top 10.
1) Carimi
2) Liuget
3) Pouncey
4) Ijilana
5) Paea
6) Nevis
7) Gilbert
8) Sherrod
9) Austin
10) Wilkerson
11) Cannon
12) Boling
13) Wisniewski
14) Solder
Didn't include any WR because it's not a major need in the draft. FA yes, rookie draft no.

I forgot a player that should fit in at 10.
10. OT/OG James Carpenter [Alabama]
At 6'5" 325lbs and with scheme diveristy Carpneter showed at the Senior Bowl that LT is not out of the question and LG could be a dominant position.

If we go DT in the first Gilbert and Carpenter will probably be on the Bears board in the 2nd.

I am regretting having Sherrod so low I think he should be 4 behind Ligiut.
I have a hard time not comparing prospects to other players already in the NFL and it is not fair to compare Chris Williams to Derek Sherrod.
Sherrod would be a great pick at 29.

everyone knows my opinion of this draft ol prospects being pushed early cause too manyteams have those holes even though the talent there isnt deservingg praise
now i would just cross nevis off my board we already have someone like him in melton so he would be a total waste of a pick. Wilkerson is just too tall to play inside effectively. He is a 3-4 de and we made that same mistake with gilbert

He definitely rates far ahead of Cannon. Some drool over Cannon's size but he's not gonna be a starting LT next season unless some team is desperate enough to take him and play him. I'm just saying that it shouldn't be the Bears who do. I'd be far more comfortable with Sherrod but that's really not that comfortable at all. Once it gets past Carimi I think the talent drops off as far as road ready LT types are concerned.
If you threw a hoop around Sherrod and Ijalana I still might take Ijilana but I wouldn't want either over a DT at #29.

I do not think we are ever going to be able to agree.
I would take Sherrod at 29 over most of the DTs available. I just cannot get behind Stephen Paea as I think he has bust written all over him.
He did not produce in a conference not known for OL play and he does not play up to his physical abilities.

Definitely a year with more quantity than top 10 can't miss quality. That's what makes picking as late as #29 a concern. Like I've said before anyone past Carimi is an OT reach at that spot. If we really, really, really, need that LT we should trade up to get him. If not then take Liuget if he's there.
Beyond that we may as well trade down, pick up another third, and find guys in the second and third who just might be as good as late first round reaches.
I agree that Nevis is a lot like Melton in size but I don't know about talent. I'd wouldn't rate him ahead of Paea though. To me Paea would be worth a late first early second on a tradedown. Nevis would be third on my list down farther in the second but I'd surely take him over Wilkerson. I agree with you about Wilkerson. If Nevis went before our second I'd go with Austin before Wilkerson too.
Seems like this draft is thin at the very top then bulges with talent in the middle. Could be a lot of moving around after the top 10 on come draft day. QB's and OT's may be more highly valued than they really are just as you say.

great post soul. The only things keeping me in the first round at this point is Carimi, Costanoz, Liuget, Pouncy(if Kreutz gets the boot), and if cant find a trade down partner Paea. I wouldnt be trading up I dont think we have the resources for that we actually need more bodies. Anything that will free up cash to get some FAs should be an option imo. We are built to win now not 3 years from now with some great player that wont be around the next few years. I dont think we can afford projects like Sherrod, Sodler, Wilkerson etc...But if I was to take on a project I would take oline over dline any day. It is just has a better success rate and I think Tice can get the most out of a player more so then Marinelli. I think Marinelli can couch great talent but I dont think he can make something out of nothing
