I know, what he says and what he thinks may be two different things and so much the better. But it's definitely what I think!

If they're intent on getting him as many snaps as possible this year that should be in the mix some of the time. Even on running plays they could use his downfield blocking when lined up wide or in the slot and I definitely think both he and Davis should be a much bigger part of the red zone offense.

The problem is that this will give the coaches opportunity to decide between using Manumaleuna and Davis at TE. My gut tells me that they'll pick Manumaleuna because he has a big contract. Kellen Davis has shown that he has a lot of promise, and in my mind, deserves first dibs at the main TE slot if it becomes available.

Different skill set Dags. Manu is strictly a blocker and not much of a receiver. He's almost an extra OT.

I know this, Paul. What I was saying was a "figure of speech", so to speak. Knowing the Bears' propensity for screwing up things, they would try to move Manumaleuna into the role as the all-purpose TE. Most likely, though, they'll probably stick with Kellen Davis, with whom I would totally be comfortable with issuing him the role as top TE.

davis can't block is his problem and as such is NOT an all around TE.. he has the body, but has never been a blocker.

I think that Martz has to get used to the idea that his offense has two very good receiving TE's and one blocking TE and use them accordingly. The only time you throw to Manu is pretty much as a tackle eligible when it's not expected or as a decoy for the same.
Olsen and Davis are the only TE's who should be running downfield patterns. I think even Martz is getting the picture on that issue. He's already using them more than he has before and I can see that increasing even more this year. I doubt they'll screw that up.

I agree. I said this in another thread about Manumaleuna: he is used primarily as a decoy, just like he was in the second Detroit game, where we threw to him the right side to ice the game. The Lions had stuffed the Bears pretty good all day, and that was good strategy by Martz to change things up a little bit.
We need to get the ball more not just to Olsen, but, as you and so many others have concurred with us on this matter have said, to Davis as well. Both have blossomed into solid blockers, but Olsen is sort of a hybrid at his position in that he is sort of like a WR in how he runs routes. He does not have a nasty disposition to him where he batters opposing defenders who are in the process of tackling him, but he is capable of putting up 300-400 more yards receiving if he were used that way. If allowed to gel properly, I would say that Davis could do much the same.

WR can wait in draft

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Bears’ biggest need in this year’s draft is at wide receiver.
That’s garbage.
The Bears have do have their share of shortcomings at wide receiver. But QB Jay Cutler is capable of making each and every one of their pass catchers better – as long as he has an offensive line that can protect him. That’s the Bears’ No. 1 priority in the draft.
While Devin Hester may never be a No. 1 wide receiver, he’s still capable of scoring every time he touches the ball, and he attracts more attention from opposing secondaries than most No. 2 or No. 3 receivers.
Johnny Knox has been nothing short of brilliant, considering that he was a fifth-round draft pick in 2009. He’s put up impressive back-to-back seasons, including last year’s 51 catches and 960 yards.
Earl Bennett overcame a slow start to catch 46 passes for 561 yards, and Cutler has as much confidence in him as any player on the roster, especially in crucial third-down situations.
The Bears do need a big, physical presence at wide receiver, especially someone who can win jump balls. But they have a much greater need at offensive line. They should get more protection for Cutler and a replacement for Tommie Harris before they consider wide receivers
