seifert put olsen on his top 10 TE's that's a suprise:

voted for Olsen because we're only one year removed from him being the top receiving option in the Bears' offense. He caught 60 passes, including eight touchdowns, in 2009. It's true that his numbers dipped significantly in 2010, but context is important: His 41 receptions were the most ever for a tight end in a Mike Martz offense, which traditionally relegates tight ends to blockers. Even San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who finished No. 4 overall in this balloting, managed 31 catches in his one season under Martz (2008).
That should count for something. (In Olsen's case, it put him No. 15 in our expanded balloting.)
As with Olsen, there is no arguing that Shiancoe's production slipped in 2010. Most notably, his touchdowns dropped from 11 to two. But I would argue that his 47 receptions last season were just as impressive, if not more, than his 56 in 2009, when you consider the rag-tag quarterback situation the Vikings found themselves in for the better part of 2010. That should count for something, and for Shiancoe it put him at No. 17.
Finley, meanwhile, no doubt would have ranked higher had he not suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 5 last season. It's probably an accomplishment to rank in the top 10 considering he has missed 14 games over the past two seasons due to injury.

I can't recall the previous thread that listed it but didn't it say that Olsen was thrown to something like 60 or 70 times which tied him with Knox in that stat? Even in Martz's offense I think he'll boost his 2010 numbers. The way JA and Lovie are talking they virtually guarantee it.

I do not want to deal Olsen, but let me play devil's advocate for a minute.
What is this is Jerry trying to get his name out there in the event that they want to trade him?
I think that the fact that a CBA is not going to get done may save the Bears from trading Olsen for less then value. I really worry about if given the opportunity JA would trade Olsen to move up in the 1st and save his precious 3rd and 4th round picks.

they tried that last year and the best offer out there was a 5th rounder. Too many good TEs riddled throughout the drafts these days. To me you dont trade him for that crap price no matter how held down he is in this offense. By next year Tice prob will be our OC if they go another season not improving the offensive talent to get Martz system to work. At that point Olsen could be a legit asset again

I agree that his value to this team is to great to trade for anything less then a mid 2nd or higher, which we are not going to get.
I really wonder if Martz is going to work to get Olsen involved or whether this is going to be a token effort. Martz has rarely shown the ability to change things up.

You forget that he went to a 50/50 pass-to-run playcalling ratio last season, which was totally out of character for Martz. They say that a leopard never sheds his spots, but in this case, Martz might well have shed his.

Yeah, because Martz needs to "get it". Lord knows that sombich aint the most accomplished coach we have.
Wait, lemme look that up.....
Yup, I'm right.
And Greg Olsen had his best season as a tight end in 2010. If he didn't drop 3 of the (I think it was 12) passes he would have been in the pro bowl.

What would be impressive would actually seeing JA trade up to land a player that could be an impact. I might actually say something nice about the guy if he were to do that.

well since angelo knows you can't trade a player, geting is name out would make no sense, think you are reaching for tha one windy : )

That is because he needs to be anchored (Lovie coming down on him like he did) and telling him to tone down the passing. I'd be happy if Martz just ran some seam patterns vs LB's. I just hope he doesn't drop a pass and wind up like Dez.
