Are we cool with trading up for him?
It looks like he is going to be a top 20 pick and the Bears may need to get aggressive to go get Pouncey if he is there guy.

If it works out that we do wind up getting Pouncey in the draft, that would probably mean that we will move Chris Williams back to his old position of LT. That would be interesting because as motownbear said, that basically means that Kreutz is a goner, and we would have some money shored up to sign another free agent or so. Perhaps this is where we sign OT Tyson Clabo and maybe one more OG. (Davin Joseph, perhaps?)
After that, our goals will be fixed on what to do about a big bodied wide receiver.

I would move for him because he is a franchise guy. I know you and I differ in this one regard, but I have not given up on Chris Williams as our LT because he has never had the time to really get comfortable and familiar with the position. I know some people would not like this offensive line that I would propose due to lack of experience playing together, but here is my idea of a good line coming into next season:
LT: Chris Williams
LG: Davin Joseph (FA)
C: Mike Pouncey
RG: Roberto Garza
RT: Tyson Clabo (FA); or at worst, J'Marcus Webb.
We can still keep Olin Kruetz around on a cheap one-year deal since his days as one of the top C in the NFL are numbered. He can be the backup and help out in any way, shape, or form with the development of Pouncey.
The only question after that would be what we would have to do to get a big-bodied WR? Will Fontaz (SP?) develop into an NFL quality WR who can go up and snag passes, or are we going to have to break out the Brinks truck and sign someone like Sidney Rice or Malcolm Floyd?
two things keep me from trading up for any player this season
1. with uncertainty of FA as of right now you need your picks
2. this drafts talents are not worth trading up especially not for Pouncy. There are two other legit C targets they can get in the third round. Especially if they are dead set on re-signing Kreutz to me drafting Pouncy to sit a year behind Kreutz would be a catastrophe of a draft. But getting a third rounder to ride bench is more palatable

The object behind drafting Pouncey, who is listed as the number 28 overall prospect by Mike Mayock, is to play him at G for a year and then move him over to C once this year's contract with Kruetz runs out. Kruetz is not going to be back with the team in 2012, so it would only be a one year wait for Pouncey to take over the C position while he fills in at LG. We need a good signal caller, and Pouncey is the best in the business as far as collegiate C/G are concerned. We can also move Chris Williams back over to LT and perhaps sign a Davin Joseph to play G, thus putting Pouncey right into the C position to begin his career. I look for the Bears to get three free agents this offseason, with possibly up to two of them being invested on the OL while the other one will probably be geared toward a WR.

I don't think Pouncey will be around in the 7th round.
