You guys have no idea how happy I am to see Rod down there on the turf with Austin. I honest to God wouldn't even mind if we picked him at 29. You know I am a UNC D fool, and I would put him in the Gerald McCoy level of talent. For all the fools who love to read scouting reports and draft websites and parrot Mayock, Kiper, McShay etc., I actually watch these guys play and know what they have done. When you guys parrot the "Didn't have a productive career," stuff, it honestly angers me. The kids was an absolute BEAST as a true freshman, took on double teams all year as a Soph and bounced back with another solid season as a Jr while being no small part of Robert Quinn's success on the edge. I have said it before and I will say it again, he has as much talent as Fairley or Dareus and I don't give two craps about what he was suspended for. Seriously, Fairley has exactly one good year to his name and only two years as a starter and though I am a big time Dareus fan, he also only started two years. We talk about character with all these UNC guys, but what is omitted from the conversation is that none of them (outside of Quinn who wasn't eligible) decided to leave their program for the pros despite the fact that each had very good marks going into last years draft before the scandal broke. That commitment to a championship is not some one-liner gimmick these guys are talking about when they say they regret their actions, that has been the talk since well before last years declaration day when they all decided to come back and make a run at it.

Sox not all of us have the time to research as you do or even access to the info you have. Don't put us down for posting based on what data we have available to base a judgement on. It's nice to have guys like you around who have better viewpoints on some of these guys but it doesn't neccessarily make our opinions inaccurate or insignificant. You love UNC guys and I love U of W guys which is why, despite your opinion, I still like Carimi as a LT.
I have no problems at all with Austin's potential to be a very good NFL DT. His size, speed and talent seems to make him a natural for us even more so than Nevis. What I'm concerned with is do we have another Marcus Harrison or Tank Johnson here who, while having all of the supposed talent in the world, just doesn't seem to live up to it. Is this the guy who can take over at that 3t spot kick ass and take names?
I'm glad that Marinelli is there to kick his tires so you know that we have an interest. We need one 3t DT and one Olineman out of those first two rounds. We need to get our guys at our spots and not reach. If this is a guy we can trade down and get who can do the job great. I have no problem with that at all. In fact so much the better because it may give us an extra pick to fill another hole with.
Taking him at #29 seems more of a risk than a guy like Liuget or Paea. I may be wrong.
Thanks for the input.

Problem is that every passing day makes it look less likely that Liuget gets to the mid 20s, let alone 29. I would say the risk is on par with Paea simply because of the knee injuries and the fact that I don't think Paea's ceiling is all that high compared to Austin's which is huge. Honestly, I think Austin's floor is higher too because his off the field concerns aren't about trouble with the law and for whatever people want to say about his attitude toward having fun off the field, he's never shown me anything less than a real desire ON THE FIELD. You might feel safer at night with Paea, but I franly don't see him as first round worthy and I want the most talented player we can get at 29.

No doubt and I as well. One good point that you make is that while Paea seems to have settled in valuewise as a high second Austin seems to be moving in that direction from the bottom of two. Comparing the two it looks like Austin is the more pure 3t of the two while Paea gives us possibilites for either NT or 3t.
I don't disagree that Liuget's stock is rising and that he may be just a dream that we don't even get close too. We need a plan to trade down and I've long been in favor of doing it for Paea if none of the top 3-4 guys on our board are there. If Austin can do the job I'd be thrilled if we could get him between #35-#45 and pick up that extra pick.
That's a great way to still get a DT, Olineman, a CB and a WR or LB all within the first three rounds.

Liuget's stock may be rising however it only takes a few players to fall surprisingly to disrupt the board-throw in a few trades here and there and a few gems may yet fall to us. Thanks for all the info you've been providing Sox.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

I think the wild card here may be a run on the OT's and Pouncey starting around #20 and a team or two jumping at a QB early. There's a few teams in need fighting over some pretty slim pickin's IMO. Somebody may trade from the 2nd back to the first to get a shot at one. Without some of that happening we may be SOL.

Charlie Casserly reported today that the Patriots may auction off their pick at #25 due to the abundance of quarterbacks that will be available or something like that. I am sure that I got at least some of those details wrong because the Pats do not need a quarterback since they have Tom Terrific.

You got it right, just wrong context. He is talking about what i was last week with the first ~10 teams in round two vying for ~4 QBs, those late first could end up being incredibly valuable with teams moving to make sure they get THEIR guy. So, smartly, they are probably putting out feeling to those teams through the Titans to tell them what they want for that pick to make sure they have options come draft day if someone does call them.

Thanks for clearing that up! I thought that was awfully strange that they would give up their second first round pick, but I get what you are saying now.

Good read and that put's the Bears in the same spot of possibly getting over paid for their #29 as opposed to our over paying to move up in round two. I can see that as one of the reasons for the interest they've shown in Austin. If Liuget is gone he's a very logical pick at the top to the middle of two.
