But yeah, I'm in agreement with you. There will be DT who are as good, if not better, than him available for the Bears to draft who will have less baggage.
I think only a very few hung that label on Peppers and if it ever was accurate it may have been because of how poorly his team was playing. You saw what he did once he got on a team with Super Bowl prospects. I've never been more wrong about a move than I was about not wanting to sign him. I'd carry his golf bag everyday for the entire offseason as penance for my sins. I just wish we could have had him from the start.

Austin may do fine once he gets to the NFL if he matures and stops making excuses for his wrongs but I'd rather not take that risk.

If he is making excuses for his stupidity, chances are that he will violate some rule within the confines of the NFL and do something in kind to what he has done in college.

BTW Paul, I'm listening to "On Wisconsin." That should tickle you pink.

We can pretty well surmise that Austin has great natural talent but whether that will transfer to his NFL career without sufficient effort on his part is the question teams have to answer. His value system is quite skewed as well if he got 13 other teamates involved in the agent thing as well. Maybe somebody is just spreading dirt but his interview on the net didn't help him any.

From what source are you listening to "On Wisconsin". That melody was also used in my HS fight song but they changed "On Wisconsin" to "On You Panthers", LOL. So I've had that tune runnin' through my mind for many a moon.

yep and as that article pointed out in the othe thread, and had not really thought about it,,, there are almost as many busts and "diva's" at DT than WR... and thatw as shocking.. but the dwyane robertson's, haynesowrth's, tommie's and the ton of busts like reynolds, harrell, etc etc. alot more misses and bad attitudes ruinign career's than you would think would happen

I have been listening to both the Fanfare version of "On Wisconsin" as well as the traditional version by the University of Wisconsin Marching Band. Marching bands were, and are still, a great passion of mine, as I marched in high school and was the top trombone player in the band as well as one of the best trombone players in the state of Tennessee back in 1999-2000. I also was accepted into the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland Marching Band, but wound up quitting just as school started up in August of 2000 when it became apparent that my feet were too deformed to meet the demands the marching band was going require for me to be a successful member; a girl was placed ahead of me in my concert band without auditioning because she allowed herself to contract dry socket in her mouth after her wisdom teeth were pulled; and I came to the realization that eight classes in one semester, especially for a freshman, which I was, was going to be too much for me to handle.

I actually have two CDs of college marching bands by conference. One of them is of the Big Ten Conference, which I credit for being the conference with the deepest and best run marching bands as a collective in the nation, and the other is from out of the SEC. I never got around to finishing up the Big XII, the Pac 10, the ACC, or the Big East. I will probably have to recatalog everything due to the conference realignments of the past year, and the fact that I have changed computers since I downloaded all of those songs in 2002-03.

Sorry about your musical misfortunes Dags. Sounds like you would have really enjoyed being in a marching band since you're such a big fan of the music.

The U of W Band is a real kick. When I lived in Madison and went to the games we'd always take the field with the marching band and dance polka's with them following the game. It was a hoot and helped raise a big thirst for the bar crawl on the way back to the car.

There was a gorgeous blond blue eyed sax player that I had the hots for who kept flirting with me but unfortunately I was already in a committed relationship at the time. Oh what might have been!
