10 Best Oline & Dline Prospects for the Bears

Bleacher Reports Bob Warja give his thoughts on the best lineman available and who he would pick if he were Bears GM. His picks pretty much fall in line with what many of us have been thinking.

He believes that Smith and Solder would be off the board but would take Carimi ahead to Castonzo and would trade up a few spots to get him if necessary.

He doesn't like Sherrod and if he was all that we left at OT he'd rather pick Pouncey or Liuget.

If both Carimi and Liuget are gone he'd take Pouncey, which is exactly what I'd do as well, but he'd take either of those two before Pouncey.

He also acknowledges a difficult choice between Carimi and Liuget if both were still there. Interestingly enough he'd take Liuget because of greater surety of success at his position. Can't say that I disagree with that. I'd tend to do the same.

Paea is not mentioned nor Austin but he thinks Taylor would be a good 2nd round pick but not a first. Since he's a pure NT I'd have to disagree with this pick. If we had a Dline like we did under Jauron maybe but he's not a Lovie kind of guy IMO.

Interesting conclusions that match up fairly well with some of the thoughts here.

i'd take ANYTHING from bleacher report with a 50lb grain of salt,soul.. not real reporters or have any special knowledge of sports or bears, just mesage board posters, putting stuff in article form...mostly high school kids

That really doesn't make a difference to me if he's just an ordinary "Joe" like all of us. What piqued my interest is just how close he is to playing the Bears draft hand about the same way as we post about it here. Maybe he follows our threads, LOL.

With the exception of suggesting Taylor as a possible 2nd round Bears pick I'd agree with just about everything else. To me Carimi, Liuget and Pouncey should be the guys at the top of our board. I'd also agree with taking Liuget over Carimi if both were still there (unlikely) and Pouncey over Sherrod in neither Carimi or Liuget were.

Just another guy who's analyzing the draft based on the Bears real needs and who might fall, not just the top rated player available.

I summarized his thoughts in the thread starter Windy. It's not really posted as a list on the website. It's a series of player photos along with his take on each.

Here's another way of looking at it.

Oline: Smith and Solder will be gone before the Bears picks and he's take Carimi over either Castonzo or Sherrod. He's even consider trading up a few notches for Carimi which is in line with one of your ideas. He'd take Pouncey over Sherrod if the top 4 OT's and Liuget are all gone.

Dline: He'd take Liuget over anyone, even Carimi if both were still on the board at #29. His reason for it is because while Liuget is a sure thing at 3t DT Carimi may not be a great LT in the NFL. Fairley and Dareus are gone before we even get a whiff of them. He has Phil Taylor as a possible second round Bears pick.

So here's his list of the top ten.

OT's = Smith, Solder, Carimi, Costanzo, Sherrod

OG's = Pouncey

DT's = Dareus, Fairley, Liuget, Taylor

It will be interesting to see how the OL plays out, but he is the only person other than Baldinger who is down on Costanzo.

Your welcome. No it's not earth shattering at all. He just seems to agree with what many of us have already come to the conclusion of. At least the guy knows the Bears and their needs better than some and I thought that was important.

Mike Mayock: Marcus Gilbert has been steadily been moving up draft boards. He's a 2nd-round pick with starter potential.

Mike Mayock: James Carpenter is a finesse left tackle. A 2nd-round pick with starter potential.

Mike Mayock: Orlando Franklin is the most physical of the non 1st-round tackles. Rising up charts; not sure if he'll be inside/outside

Mike Mayock: The guy I'm intrigued by is Jah Reid. He's a right tackle only, but he's a starting right tackle 2 years from now.

The Bears looked at Gilbert while they worked Pouncey out. He and Carpenter are most likely two guys the Bears will be looking to land in the second if that first choice goes for Liuget or we take any other DT with our first pick either at #29 or in a trade down. Sizewise I gotta think that Gilbert is more a Tice kind of lineman than Carpenter and Florida generally runs a more pass oriented offense so it's possible that Gilbert is the more advanced pass blocker of the two.

I've about half way given up hope that we'll ever get a shot at Carimi at #29 and I really don't see JA trading up if he thinks he can get either Pouncey or Liuget instead. I also don't think they'll take a chance on Sherrod or Solder. Too many question marks there. So to me it looks like it's very likely we'll take an OT with our second pick and it's just possible that a few of those guys represent as good or better value than anyone in the latter part of round one.

Something makes me think that the Bears are looking at Marcus Gilbert as a possible high pick.

He apparently has a phenomenol pro day and Mayock is pojecting him as a late 1st round pick, which could be interesting.

What do we of the Bears drafting Gilbert?
