    Henry Melton and the Draft

With the Bears being high on Melton and pointing to recent weight gain and an arrow pointing up.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bear...left-by-harris

And speculation starting that he is going to star at the vaunted 3 technique position.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/6...rt-next-season

How does this impact the Bears Draft strategy?

If this is true and they want him to start then how do the Bears justify taking a DT in the 1st round? They would be spending a 1st round pick on a player that would be slated to be in a rotational situation.

In my opinion this would bump DT down the needs list to the 2nd and more likely 3rd round.

You could also use that premise on the OL as well. Omiyale makes too much to sit and Williams will be on the field as well. Either on offense or defense someone will split time on the line. Which may be better than drafting a CB or WR first as they would probably be redshirted.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

If we draft an OLmen in the 1st they will start, probably at LT.

If we draft a DLmen he will rotate with Melton.

I like Melton. I really do. Kids got a ton of potential. But he will never be the full time UT.
Guys like Sapp, and Tommie Harris are not developed, they are born.
He is alot like Devin Hester. Hester "could" play corner, and he "could" play wide reciver. However as a corner or WR he'd been cut last year.
Melton is valuable at DE, DT, Goal line RB and FB (and I bet you see some of that this year). Hell, I'd like to see him line up at tight end.
You try to pigeonhole him to a #1 position and you are flushing his career down the shitter.
Melton is a versital and tanelented kid. Worst thing you can do is try to make him a #1 anything.

Would love to see that but doubtful they will put a rook on Jay's blind side right off the bat esp. with Martz schemes. Could eventually gain the starting role later in the season though.

I agree w/a lot of that but I thought the same of Izzy as well. I think Rod at least gets one shot at molding Melton.

They put Frank Omiyale on his blindside, so I think a rookie is an upgrade.

100% agree but just think that with Frank's contract they will be slow to sit him.

I may be wrong, but I believe this year Franks contract isn't worth much.

Izzy is seriously one of my favorite Bears, but with Urlacher threatning the A gaps and Peppers on the other side, name me a left DE who had an easier year.
