Not Really Fair because we didnt' have a first or a second last year. or a first round the year before that if memory serves me correct.
gave up 2 firsts for Cutler and a 2nd for Gaines Adams (RIP)

Perhaps this is the Bears trying to feign interest in the top OLmen or in a possible trade up?
It's called windsock reporting. You see the general direction the wind is blowing in speculation and run with it, regardless of its basis in facts and reality. Jay Maronotti made a career out of it.
It's not hard to wrap yourself around the idea that our best option may be a trade down, but nothing is "likely" until we are on the board looking at how the 28 picks before us went down.

That moron is a windsock himself although he was usually going in the opposite direction as the real wind was blowing. Moronotti loves to take the least popular standpoint he can find and then beats it to death. He gets his readers by being an antagonist.
That's what I was just saying in another post. It'll be late Thursday night before we know what makes the most sense. I'm sure the Bears have a plan for all likely contingencies.

in essence we did have a first round pick two years ago.......Jay Cutler but you are right no first last year
and we did have a 2 round pick last year and he was Gaines Adams. Just imagine he was another Bazuine that got cut.

I agree.
It is pretty obvious that our best option may turn out to be trading down. I also think that the Bears are going to be active between 24-40 as the players in that range all seem to be carrying similar value.
Nothing would shock me at this point as long as we get the players that Tice and Marinelli have identified I am okay.
I know by most sites and "experts" it would be a reach, but I would be okay with Carpenter at 29 if Tice thinks he can play LT in 2011.

Good viewpoint mo!!! In essence all we spent extra in the Cutler trade was the first last year. The first and third we gave up the previous year got us Cutler and Knox and both are worth at least that much.
The Gaines Adams trade cost us a second and he probably would have been worth that much had he lived and that's unfortunate for both the Bears and Adams family and friends. I think Marinelli could have made a good pass rusher out of him. But you're right it's no more loss than the failed pick of Dan Bauziun. It's just unfortunate that it happened that way but if it hadn't would we have ever taken the plunge with Peppers?

I would be pretty fucking pissed with that pick. That is the epitome of reaching on poor value to fill a need, a la Duane Brown.

To us he would be a reach, how do we know that there are not 10 teams that have a 1st round grade on him.
How do we know that the Bears and Mike Tice do not have him much higher on the boards then we do?
I agree in my rankings it would be a reach, but I will defer to Mike Tice in this instance as he has a better understanding of NFL OL play and development then all of us.

Because when I look at the top 32 of the draft, he simply doesn't fit in talent-wise. That's a pretty big red flag for me. I'd rather we draft a guy like Cannon there, and I don't even like his value in the first round. Even the guys at CDS, who as I have said were on him well before Mayock, have only seen him as a mid-rounder since the beginning of last season and they hyped him up a lot even before then. Talent trumps need, in close calls you go with need, but when I look at how good that list of 25-50 is on my board, I can't say he compares to any of them value-wise without chuckling.
