Bears Likely To Trade Down [Tribune]

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...6603950.column

Which brings us to a trade. Personnel director Tim Ruskell has acknowledged that it could be worth considering moving up. And the Bears might have to move up to get an immediate impact player.

But the price might be prohibitive, unless one of their targeted players slides and they merely need to move up a few spots.

Understand this about the Bears. As a result of trades and misses, they have one player on their roster from the first three rounds of the last two drafts — safety Major Wright. This is a team that is badly in need of an infusion of multiple young players. For their long-term health, the Bears need numbers of solid players more than they need one difference maker.

So barring something unusual, a trade up probably is not in the Bears' best interests. A trade down, on the other hand, could be exactly what the draft doctor ordered.

There is a deep 2nd tier of OLmen in this draft and if the top LT prospects are gone the Bears should trade down get picks and look at,

    Orlando Franklin
    Marcus Cannon
    James Carpenter
    Ben Ijalana

I'm a big fan of trading down, just not ALL the time. It also depends on the position.

Our #1 focus needs to be on the offensive line.. Thats a position we can take in the early rounds and not have to worry as much..

I think we've diluted down the drafted impact talent with trade downs enough. Would be nice to see change in tendencies and if there is a bona-fide impact guy they wish to jump up a bit to grab. That along with just a few solid impact type FA's would make more of a difference with perhaps a shrinking window than would grabbing depth guys that can't get us over the hump.

I have been thinking about this article and I know it is speculation, but whenever I see stuff like this I start thinking that this is some sort of smoke screen.

Perhaps this is the Bears trying to feign interest in the top OLmen or in a possible trade up?

i have been saying this since last summer looking forward. We need to infuse some young talent on this team and looking forward I didnt see the the oline prospects-our biggest weakness- worth first round grades. Trading down is a no brainer unless a miracle talent falls in our lap

But the counter argument to that is that we have not had a 1st or 2nd round pick for 2 years and we need impact players and you do not get impact players as often trading down.

Perhaps the Bears have enough solid talent, but not enough stars.

Not as often no but you can get them and unless the perfect guy falls to us at #29, trading down to pick up an extra third is much more attractive then giving one up in my book. There are certainly OT's and DT's that would be a nice fit for us in that second round.

Frankly I don't see them trading up for any of the OT's. The need may be there but giving up a 3rd or a 3rd and a 5th seems a bit much for trading up to picks #20-#25. It would even be a stretch to trade up for Liuget IMO unless it was just three or four slots and we could get away with just a 4th round pick or a higher 2012 pick.

I'm with motown on this. We need an infusion of both talent and youth during this years draft and next. Because we have such an elite coaching staff we may be able to take slightly lesser talent and still get top level performances from them. I believe that many of the guys who will be drafted to fill those OT spots are of lesser talent than projected. There are quite a few players other than just the Olineman who are being hyped into round one based on perception and I think there will be more than a few disappointments amongst these guys as well.

If we don't get THE guy we want then I think a trade down makes more sense for us now than a trade up.

and the counter to that is if you believe the talent at end of the first is on par with what you see in the second why not pick up an extra pick? All this depends on who falls to us of course but if the Luiget, Carimi etc..... are all gone and we are left with snickle fritz I trade down. You want another Chris Williams on this team that has to be here just cause he is a first rounder? I dont
