Report: Bears to face Rams in Hall of Fame Game
The buzz for weeks has been that the day after Richard Dent is enshrined in Canton, Ohio, the Chicago Bears will play in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
The NFL will release the official preseason schedule at 3 p.m. Tuesday and Tony Softli of 101 ESPN in St. Louis, and a former employee of the St. Louis Rams, tweeted that the game will pit the Bears vs. the Rams on Aug. 7 at Fawcett Stadium.
The Tribune reported April 4 that strong indications were the Bears would be selected to play in the kickoff game to the 2011 season for the first time since 2005. This means the Bears will be able to open training camp one week early at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.
Of course, training camp and the preseason hinge on the owners and players reaching a resolution on the labor issues hanging over the game like a black cloud. If training camp is delayed, the Hall of Fame Game would be one of the first things to be cancelled. An extra week of training camp would be coveted if teams miss parts or all of the offseason workout program.
Stay tuned for an official announcement.
