It is fine until football season starts
Well if not we can always bring in Chad Pennington with his bum knee and that way Hanie will be assured of getting some starts.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him get one there or an UDFA or two. We've got Gutierrez on the roster but we'll need at least one more arm for the camps anyway. I'd rather we spent our picks and vet FA on guys who can tackle, block, cover and catch. QB seems pretty far down the priority list right now. Cutler isn't fragile and if we can give him better protection this year even Hanie won't see much action.
We have Matt Gutierrez on the roster right now. Add to that there will be a good number of backup QBs realesed from rosters this year. Sure their names aren't going to blow you away. But is this really the time we want to start "developing" another QB? Mike Martz has never been an offensive coordinator for more than two years in a row. Maybe we should see what happens before we draft a system QB.
Not saying we get a "system" guy but rather a guy with raw talent who can learn Martz's system. Hanie seems to have picked it up fairly well in what little time he's been at it and he came in as a UDFA with a good arm, good accuracy and good mobility. We got a "find" in him and there are probably others like him out there. Whoever wins the 3 spot will just run the scout team and chart plays anyway.
