Bears' Bennett signs with new agents
Bears' Bennett signs with new agents
By Brad Biggs Tribune reporter 12:30 p.m. CDT, April 18, 2011
cbsports-bears-bennett-signs-with-new-agent-20110418 His agents can’t talk to the Chicago Bears on his behalf during the NFL lockout, but wide receiver Earl Bennett has new representation.
Bennett, who previously was repped by Bus Cook, has signed with Octagon and will be represented by Doug Hendrickson and C.J. Laboy, according to Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal.
The 24-year-old Bennett has one year remaining on his contract. He played in 14 games last season and made 46 receptions for 561 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Bennett had 100 receptions over the last two seasons after playing sparingly as a rookie in 2008.
A third-round draft pick from Vanderbilt, Bennett could be in line for more playing time this coming season, but much of that depends on what moves the Bears make in the offseason –- in the draft and in free agency when the lockout ends.
The Bears could consider moving Devin Hester out of the starting lineup but that remains to be seen.

He and Forte are on my extend anytime that you want list.
4 years 14 million/ 6 guaranteed, sound about right for Bennett's next contract.

Don't hold your breath just yet. Bus Cook could still linger on since Favre never can keep his mind made on retirement.

I wouldn't insult bennett like that- hes this decade's version of bobby engram, a much better comparision and matching ability.. but unlike wanny/mmc/hetley.. do not think angelo will let him walk as those fools did with engram

He is a lot like Bobby Engram.
4 years 12 million seems both fair and reasonable for a very good slot WR. I really thought after year 1 and Bennett did not play that the he was going to bust.

More than any position, and most combined positions- you find WR's that had bad first year, heck even a bad 2nd year.. STILL become stars and pro bowlers( T.O, steve smith, ocho, welker, etce etc)... it is for most a long development process in the NFL, and unlike other poistions where if bad to start , likely to never be top tier, you can and do almost each year find a WR that was bad in year 1 and maybe 2, "break out" in year 3..

I like that thought, DB. Maybe Bennett turns into a special wide receiver in the league. I certainly think he has earned a pay day with the Bears.
