agree 100% its a "need" for 2011, but as we have talked many times. rookie WR's do NOT fill that need very well- and most likely baldwin will not be a big contributor in 2011, esp in martz system,, which is WHY specifically for this team and situation you can get a OT/DT that CAN contribute right away, and get a flyod or rice( if he makes it to f/a) who CAN help right away at WR.. just a better use of draft picks and free agency

I do not think that it is out of the question that Baldwin hits 62.
I am putting Baldwin into my potential trade down targets.

if he falls that far- IMO the concerns are legit on his off field stuff and bad route running and not sure want and esp at WR these red flags really a concern

Negatives: Comes with some character concerns, was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment in 2009... Needs to work on his route running, slows down to change direction and runs too much in a straight line... Has trouble getting off the line of scrimmage despite his frame... Doesn't always get good separation in man coverage... Lacks any suddenness to his game... Appears lazy at times, doesn't always come back to the ball when plays break down... Has not dominated the way that he should with his physical gifts.
It's easy to fall in love with Baldwin as a prospect. He has excellent size and good speed once he really gets moving. His hands are good and he catches the ball routinely away from his frame. However, there are a lot of questions out there about Baldwins effort. He's had some lapses of inconsistency throughout his career, which are concerning.

I think Michael Lombardi said it best when April came around that everything that comes out of GMs mouths and from "sources" has to be looked at as a smokescreen or an obviously known fact. We know Martz and co want another young QB in house since the drafting of Legirlyarm, and though I don't want to see us waste a pick on one, I can see us seeing who is there in round 6. Hell, with JA we will probably call puss arm guys like Yates the BPA earlier than that when we inevitably grab them.

And w/this years 1st round pick, the chicago bears take........Scott Tolzien, Wisconson, QB.
It's JA at his finest, a complete reach for a potential diamond in the rough, at a non need position.

Whoever we signed when Hanie got hurt, had to have some knowledge of the playbook, because they had 2 weeks to get ready for the season opener. And being that Jay got pulled from two preseason games because they couldn't protect him, odds were good that #2 QB was going to come in handy.
Am I the only one that remembers Collins being plan J????
Of course I remember him as a last ditch effort and one that in hindsight should not have been made. Hanie's injury caused him to lose time in camp and the preseason which could have gone to LeFevour and another rookie or waiver wire arm until Hanie was healthy. There were a few rookie QB's who did fairly well this past season filling in for the starter.
All panicking over Cutler's health got us was a date with the ugliest girl at the dance. IMO it was foolish to sign Collins and even more foolish to ever play him again after that debacle in Carolina. Like it or not I call 'em as I see 'em.

And then only if we've got two third round picks to fill those other spots that we didn't get earlier. Personally I'd opposed to picking any WR before the late 3rd pick or in the 4th. Anyone we pick will not be a major player for at least two years or even longer. So what if he becomes an all-pro five years from now. We need starters now and the best place we can get WR's like that is FA.

LOL, not in the first but as an UDFA yeah, he might work.

I do not agree that any WR that we take will be a project for a couple of years.
Our WR core is not very good so a bigger player like Baldwin may come in and have an impact a lot sooner then he would on a team with a better WR core.
I am not saying a dominant presence, but a positive impact would be running a slant route and subbing in on goal line packages.
Knox has had a pretty immediate impact.

Baldwin would certainly have a lot to learn. I think he is at least as talented as Johnny Knox, and his size would be valuable to us. If we take Marvin Austin in the second, I could see us going for this guy since they both have character issues.
