Oh, for sure. Which is why I would have to give Tice an incomplete grade at this point.
But I could say the same for Martz. This time last year we all knew it was going to be tough to install a whole new system with very young players. It wasn't like Martz was given a boatload of new talent to work with. As good as Knox is, he only caught 50% of passes that came his way. Hester all but dissapeared most games. Cutler didn't have much time and got the snot knocked out of him, but he wasn't exactly blame free on some of his worse games.
But I for one would like to see some commitment to allowing this system to develop. It's not just good for Martz, but for the mentality of the players as well.

Last year was Martz's first year and he wants a raise? And turned down an extension because it wasn't accompanied by a raise. My question is Does Martz deserve a raise after one season with the Bears? IMHO no...not yet.

Martz is still living off past accomplishments and has always had a much higher opinion of himself than others. Apparently the fact that he wasn't the Bears first choice for an OC when they hired him hasn't sunken in yet either. He may be counting on a loyalty he hasn't quite earned yet.
Let's see what happens with this years offense before we make any final decisions. He's under contract for 2011 and he's welcome to play hard to get if he wants but something tells me that he's not scoring any points with that attitude. Bears management seems to take a dim view of those who turn down contract offers.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Hmmm, an offensive coordinator leads his team to a 30th ranked offense and gives up 60 sacks. His franchise QB spends entire quarters just looking for the best place to throw the ball away. His play calling is so obviously unsuited to the realistic personnel situation, that even Lovie Smith has to spend the bye week on a come-to-Jesus smackdown. His offense manages just 17 pts in the last 2 games against their bitter rival and with the SB on the line. Oh, and by the way, 7 of those were scored by the QB he insisted was a #3 and who only got to play cuz his #1 was injured (again) and his personally-chosen #2 was so inept to the point of being a national TV embarrassment.
And............this guy wants a RAISE ????

Mike Martz is the worst coach on this staff. I have to believe that this is true because he does not work within the confines of the talent that he has available. In the last eight games of the regular season, the Bears averaged 26 points per contest, which was far better than what they averaged in the first half of their schedule. The reason was not because of Martz, but because of Lovie Smith doing just as you said MP: he had a "Come to Jesus" meeting with "the Mad Scientist." There is no telling how many games we would have won had we adopted a style of offense that seemed more in the style of Mike Tice's area of expertise and simply control the line of scrimmage by a 50/50 mixture of run and pass plays. Even as late as the last two Packer games, Martz tried to go back to the same strategies which plagued the offense in the early going by not controlling the line of scrimmage, and because of that, we failed to achieve our objective of getting to the Super Bowl. I still believe that had we run our offense that we had run from the ninth game until the fifteenth game, we not only would have avoided losing to the Packers both of those last two meetings, we would have been the NFC's representative in Super Bowl XLIV. Mike Martz really dropped the ball badly at the end, and he is the person I lay most of the blame on for us not celebrating this proud franchise's 10th World Championship.
