Chicago bear Draft grades and analysis
figure good to keep in one thread:
fox:
29. CHICAGO BEARS
GABE CARIMI, OT, WISCONSIN - Profile
CZAR'S FRONT OFFICE TAKE: Bears GM Jerry Angelo had been trying to trade out of the first round, but he definitely feels good about landing Wisconsin tackle Gabe Carimi, who has the toughness and ability to force his way into the starting lineup. Chicago has a definite need on the offensive line, one that failed to protect brittle quarterback Jay Cutler last season. The Bears were looking at Danny Watkins and then they passed on defensive lineman Marvin Austin.
CAPLAN'S ANALYSIS: The Bears probably didn’t think they would have a chance at Carimi this late in the first round, but they wound up selecting him. The talented offensive lineman is capable of playing right or left tackle, but personnel sources said he’s better off on the right side. Some teams actually believe he can play guard.

NFP:
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
6-7, 327 pounds
Carimi is not only a great value for the Bears at 29, but also a perfect fit. He's the best run blocking offensive tackle in the class, can get after it as a downhill guy and is a good enough athlete to play left tackle in the league. The Bears couldn't be happier with how this played out and Carimi should be starting on the blind side for Chicago come week one.

SI:
Gabe CarimiSI Grade: 3.01
The Bears made the perfect pick, at least if the long and rangy OT lives up to his potential. Carimi was a four-year starter, and is a potential franchise LT, who is strong in both pass protection and in run blocking. His Wisconsin offense rushed for 48 TDs in 2010 and fell just a few yards shy of producing three 1,000-yard rushers in the same backfield. Chicago desperately needs that kind of production: the Bears were dead last in 2010 on what we call the Offensive Hog Index - the worst offensive line in football - as equally inept protecting the passer as they were rushing the football.

I gotta ask, if Wisconsin is a run first team, and that's what this dude is used to more than anything, how confident should we be in his pass protection skills at the next level? and WHY a RT, if that's where they play him? All the draft gurus on here pretty much agreed that Webb was a RT, didn't have the LT skill-set.

pretty confident and he played Lt at wisconsin so had to pass block.. and only Tice and martz know for know where they plan on playing him- all else idle specualtion,, could even be a RT for 2011 and move over to LT as have seen happening in the NFL over the last few years( ie probowlers like ogden and jordan gross played RT first year before moving over)... like we hve options

how do we not get an A grade for our pick?
and with the drafting of Sherrod does that mean Packers plan on moving Bulaga to G? I thought they would keep stacking that defense good thing they didnt

Yep, not your fathers Lions anymore; they are going to be rough and tough if their qb is able to stay healthy.

Yeah, just one more reason we've got to get our Oline up to snuff and fast. That's one hell of a DT duo to have to face twice a year.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
