Why is that a surprise gamma? War Room Jerry said that they were looking to draft a QB to develop and we all know they had an interest in Enderle and personally worked him out. Somewhere in here we were gonna get a QB, either draft or UDFA, and if Enderle represented better value in the 5th than any lineman left on the board then he was a good pick.
There's a few things that some of you are forgetting. One is that the latter rounds of the draft are specifically meant for players who need time and coaching to become NFL players. It's not where you usually find starters and there are some very good values there especially at skill positions like QB and RB. Two is that FA is where you go after vets who fit specific needs and can play in your sytems immediately and we haven't had FA yet. And Three, that there are a few guys already on the roster who are still in their develomental stages as Olineman and Tice has a rep for getting production out of guys like that.
I probably wouldn't have picked a QB at that spot in my mind but in reality it not a bad pick if you needed one and the cupboard for lineman and linebackers was pretty bare.

Whoa, there seems to be a lot of bitching and whining going on in here. I have to admit that I slept through today's draft proceedings, but I heard we took Nathan Enderle, who had a pretty good season last year in college (though his completion percentage was only at 57%). Here is a look at our backup quarterback:

Nathan Enderle
Chicago Bears
Round 5, Pick 160
Position: QB
Class: 5Sr
School: Idaho
Conference: Western Athletic
HT: 6-4
WT: 240
40 Time: 4.82
Biography: Part-time starter the past two seasons after being Arizona's feature back as a sophomore in 2008. Totals last year included 118/533/8 on the ground with 25/189/1 receiving. Junior rushing totals included 567 yards with five scores. Had a career-best 214/1153/13 rushing as a sophomore.
Positives: "Explosive back who plays with suddenness. Displays solid vision, runs north-south, and keeps his feet moving up the field. Possesses the speed and agility to turn the corner, shows a burst through the hole, and has the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Quick-footed, creates yardage, and keeps the play inbounds. Solid receiver who extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame. Recognizes blitzes thrown by the opposition and picks up blocking assignments."
Negatives: Not a strong back who picks up yardage off initial contact and easily brought down by a single defender. Never capitalized on a terrific sophomore season.
Analysis: Grigsby has flashed skill the past two years after being one of the nation?s better ball carriers in 2008. He possesses the football ability to make an NFL roster as a third-down back/rotational ball carrier.
Projection: 5th

Analysis on J.T. Thomas

J.T. Thomas
Chicago Bears
Round 6, Pick 195
Position: OLB
Class: 5Sr
School: West Virginia
Conference: Big East
HT: 6-1
WT: 241
40 Time: 4.65
Biography: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors the past two seasons. Senior totals included 73/7/2.5 after 76 tackles as a junior.
Positives: "Undersized, one-gap linebacker best in pursuit. Fluid changing direction, can chase down the action from the back side, and has terrific sideline-to-sideline range. Covers a lot of area on the field, displays a burst to the play, and easily redirects to ball carriers."
Negatives: Marginally instinctive and bites on play-action passes. Lacks bulk and gets swallowed up by blocks.
Analysis: Thomas has been a productive linebacker on the college level since his sophomore season. He projects as a backup weak side linebacker and special teams player for the next level.
Projection: FA

B/c it wasn't a need posisiton and you were looking for 3-4 starters out of this draft maybe? If you need starters, you don't pick up a guy that will end up on the bench or on the PS at the minimum. He's not surplanting Haine this year; nor should he...and why are we even looking for a developmental qb, keep Haine as long as you can, and then draft someone to develop. Wasted pick when you need to go after starters or at least backups(which this guy won't be this year).

Looks like Sports Illustrated dropped the baton when making their analysis on Enderle. They put someone else's analysis up there instead.

I know he wasn't a need pick. I'm just saying that we shouldn't have been surprised that he did what he said he would do. We told him not to but that guy never listens to us then goes and gets himself in trouble.
Seriously though, I don't like the pick either but logically I can understand it. From his point of view it made more sense to pick him than another guys at postions he didn't want or players who wouldn't fit.
Not saying it was right just that I understand his thinking, I think????????????????

Does anyone other than 4th and 26 understand the mind of Jerry Angelo? He has it down to a science, so it seems. A science of disbelief, scrutiny, and utterly disapproval. lol

He's not that hard to figure out really. He knows what he knows and that's it. Since he can evaluate defensive needs and players pretty well that's what he drafts. Since Lovie is a defensive minded coach he doesn't mind at all and goes along with picking DT's, DE's, LB's and SS's anywhere in the first 4 rounds with an occasional CB or two thrown in.
He doesn't know Olineman worth a shit so until this year he pretty much depended on others to do it for him. Since his own people kind of sucked at it too he used proven players who others had already evaluated, drafted, and played, selecting some who actually paid off and a lot of others who didn't. Luckily he got Tice who does know shit from shinola about them and we got a very nice OT in the 1st and he'll find someone he can use in FA as well.
Since Green Bay drafts QB's all the time and they are the SB Champs he figures if he does it too he may look as smart as they do. He never drafts WR's until the 3rd round or later and first round RB's only when forced to by his peers. TE's aren't his specialty either.
But.........the guy is the greatest evaluator of Special Teams Players in the entire league and someday may make the HOF on the basis of that alone. I think 4th has the same take on it that I do but you can confirm it with him if you like!
Just kidding guys......or am I?
