It's not generic if you start naming names. ex: "some fans on this board have spelling issues" is generic. "DB54 and riczaj01 along w/all the other fans on this board could affoard to go back to 5th grade for an english lesson." not generic.
And while there is no doubt some teams are making money; other teams aren't, and it's going to be harder to sell. If teams were just making money hand over fist, you would not have teams looking at moving or being sold. And like DB pointed out, calling a woman who has lived in the same house her whole life(no doubt it's pretty damn nice) but doesn't have ac is hard to say she's greedy. I bet she could be living much more extravegent if she wanted to.
I said he made an error in judgement, admitted it, then made a clarification. Was it wrong to use Ginny's name? Yeah it was, but like he said, "It was not a poke at Virginia or Brian McCaskey". He spoke from his standpoint as a players rep and even Lovie understood that.
"Robbie Gould is the player rep so he has to be in that role", Lovie said.
Gould said, "I didn't downgrade anything the McCaskey's have done. I just said the McCaskey's, along with the rest of the owners, are greedy and that's why we're in this lockout". That's Robbie Gould the player rep speaking as a representative of the players not Robbie Gould the person. What else would you all have expected him to say in that capacity.
He was trying to make a statement about the owners contribution to the labor mess and that's all it was but because he brought up Ginny's name he gets crucified by David Haugh for it. I respect Virginia McCaskey too as I do GSH for all they have done for pro football but she's not the Virgin Mary for Christ sake. The idea that she somehow stands apart from every other owner because of her heritage is just plain wrong. Would it have been ok then if he'd just used Brian's name or George's name and left hers out of it?
The guy made a comment on behalf of the players as the players rep. That's what he was elected to do and while he may have carried it too far he did clarify what he meant by it and that it was not a swipe at only the McCaskey's. Now what will they do? Trade his ass like they did Trace Armstrong and we lose another pro-bowl level player?
Just whose ass does he have to kiss now to avoid that? Ginny and Brian McCaskey's or David Haugh's. It's a hatchet job article that shouldn't even have been written the way it was but the Trib's support of the Halas family goes back to day one so it doesn't surprise me.
Like I said, if you're all not there to watch Robbie Gould next time he lines up for a game winner then ask the camera men to focus on the owner's booth where the real action is. Nail biting concern is far more interesting to watch isn't it?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.
So, since she's royalty, can we compare her to her father whom Ditka once said of as "Throwing nickels around like manhole covers"?
EDIT: I know it's two different scenarios, Halas didn't wanna play players, and McCaskey is only wanting a larger revenue like 30 other owners, but there is a tie that binds...

Soul, I can say 2+2=5, then try and say I wasn't wrong, and guess what I'm still wrong. Robbie can say he wasn't calling out the owners, that doesn't mean that is what he was doing. Classic political double speak. Robbie can make statements on the situation w/out using rhetoric, which is exactly what he did. He didn't say anything but the same crap we were hearing from both sides before the lockout. If the situation is going to end, both sides have to be bigger then that.

True, but it shows that he made ammends for what he said, and does anyone really think the owner gives a ****? I don't. I'm pretty sure she's got other business in mind. Now if he weren't just speaking from a general consensus, and was being outright disrespectful, or other players were joining in the chorus, I'd say he did the absolute wrong thing, but can't a guy vent his frustrations? Not like there's gonna be any love lost between the two when he kicks some clutch FG's next year anyway.
Soul, if virginia or any mccaksey said "talk about being greedy! gould makes $14 mill for kicking a ball 3-4 times once a week for 16 weeks thats $390,000 we pay per kick! that's 10X what the avg is per chicago household for each kick- the players are overpaid and greedy"
i'd feel the same way they went over the line and were wrong and if their response was , ""I didn't downgrade anything robbie has done. I just said robbie, along with the rest of the players, are greedy and that's why we're in this lockout"... i'd call them jerks for that also
you can vent his frustrations all he wants, but the reason he was elected as a player rep was to speak for the players; was b/c he should be better at doing it then the others. I can get that crap from any player ESPN decides to throw on the radio. He should have a better sense then that. And he didn't make amends or apologize, merely try to justify his comments; which were poorly thought out to begin with.

ask trace armstrong.john mackey and kevin mawae if the owners hold grudges about players if they speak out against them...: )
Free agent center Kevin Mawae thinks he’ll probably play for the Tennessee Titans in 2010, but he’s currently not under contract. And Mawae can’t help but wonder whether his status as the president of the NFLPA is keeping owners from offering him a deal.
”Part of me wants to say no, that that’s not the case, that management can look past the business side of football and try and build a good football team,” Mawae told Titans Radio WGFX-FM. ”But history shows that they’ve done this to players in the past. John Mackey back in the day was the President of the Players Association. He was an All-Pro and didn’t even get a job until midway through the next season.”

He's 40, it makes sense that you would keep him as the mouthpiece, seeing as his career is all but over anyway. Heck, it shoulda been when the jets released him in 05, but he was still able to hold on. As for the other two, one played in the 60s and 70s, which isn't a good comparison, and the other was traded from chicago for a 2nd and 3rd, to miami, after which he signed a 6 year deal with the raiders; he quit playing because he wasn't able to pass a physical, not because he was railroaded. I see what you're trying to say, but those are not the best examples.

good point ric- need less vitroil and more "getting together".. and more "let's solve it" and not finger pointing or name calling
