Hannie is the second qb on our roster, and will be for this year. After this year I see them trading him for picks and grabbing another late round qb to grow.
Basically, this has nothing to do with hannie, or how Martz feels about Hannie, but more about growing qb's under Cutler to farm for draft picks... ala the way GB did under Favre.
Those were exactly my thoughts behind the reason why JA said that from now on we would draft and develop our own QB's. The Packers have done well with that over the years by parlaying 5th and 6th round picks into 3rd round or better picks from trades. NE got a 1st for Cassel who was a 7th round pick.
Now that we have a young and healthy QB who also has exhibited some real toughness throughout his career we can do that. All we really need behind Cutler is an equally young fairly talented guy like Hanie who knows the offense well enough to take over in game or for a few games IF Cutler is injured. I don't anticipate a time when you'll ever see Cutler pulled from a game over performance issues.
So Hanie is the guy in the on deck circle right now but may be traded when the value is there, right now he wouldn't bring much, and Enderle becomes the trainee for Hanie's chair or may become eventual trade bait himself. He's more the current prototype size for a QB that Hanie. Either way JA keeps bringing in newer talent every other year so the hopper stays full and with any degree of success from the plan the Bears never find themselves in the QB dilemna again that haunted them for so many years.

I wouldn't give him up even for a 3rd right now BDM. Now that he's virtually guaranteed second chair and one hard sack away from starting role he's in his perfect spot career wise plus we need him right now more than we need a 2012 3rd rounder.

I agree. I wouldn't give him up right now for anything. We need him. If Enderle shows some promise though, I see Hannie being dealt and Enderle taking up the #2 while we grow another project QB behind him.

"That number (55.1 percent) is because he had a lot of throwaways," Martz said. "He had nowhere to go with the ball. Really, the throwaways are a good thing. He was very accurate in the workout."
This has to be met with some kind of skepticism. While it is true that throwaways are a sign of intelligence in a QB, I don't think you can just outright buy from this that they were all throwaways because the WR's were covered. No clue if the dude held on to the ball that long, after all there IS a reason he was there in the 5th. In the article, it says as a senior he completed 63% of his passes, but ESPN is tracking him as only having 56, and other than his junior year he was an interception machine.
In addition to some dubious article writing and possible overpraise for this kid, another statement stuck out:
"Nathan will compete with Caleb for the backup position. I would expect that Caleb will end up being the guy, but Nathan is good enough to be that player."
To some, this might say "I think he could come out great as a rookie", but I think logically, you have to look at this as him still not having enough faith in Hanie. The fact that it seems to him, feasible for Nathan to be the number 2 guy just doesn't sit well.

How much do you want to bet me that Martz will place Enderle ahead of Caleb Hanie in the pecking order if Hanie isn't traded?

Despite Martz' high praise for him, and apparent lack of faith (or rather as much faith as he should have) in Hanie's playing abilities, I doubt anyone would think Nate's gonna jump Hanie, not this year, anyway.

Maybe Martz can help with the developement of our future back up qb since we are 0 for 52 on developing qbs over the last 15 years.
Side note, the 52 is not a real number but one I just made an educated guess on. I just want to make sure certain people don't get confused on my reply.

Enderle is the second coming of Tom Brady. There, I said it!

Maybe Jay Cutler will get knocked out and he will step in and lead the bears to the Superbowl.

He'll make all of Jerry Angelo's naysayers eat crow and make Lovie Smith look like a genius!
